Feaster- "We made a few calls and we were close on a couple of players. We are still in ongoing conversations with a couple players of interest" Media availability over.

Sounds like he came up empty. No biggie. Flames are in rebuild and need a couple more drafts and players to step forward before free agents sign here again.
Meh, unless something happens he'll probably just address the Mason Raymond rumor and say there was nothing to it, then the Russell trade, and then say they were in discussion with lot's of players throughout the day but nothing came along that fit the Flames needs, then he'll talk about Ramo.
Same. It's a bad year for free agents, not just for the talent available, but for where we are at in our competetive cycle. It's not our time to be throwing big contracts at players that are currently either at their peak, or on the downward side of it (which most UFAs are).

So 70 minutes to do something, otherwise it will be:
"The prices being paid today are too high so we didn't do anything" (in a sense, correct, in another sense, I think they lost out on a couple players)
"We felt we got value with the Russell pick and addressed a need after realized how out of whack the market is" (In otherwords, we wanted Ference but Oilers paid him twice as much as we were offering).
"Niemiez we're hoping to have a bounce back year, its his last chance with the Flames."
"Berra will challenege for the number 1 job."
"Really excited about Knight, project him to be a good player for years to come."
(All 3 standard Feaster/GM speak about non-established NHL players hoping that they can contribute)
Only question to be addressed is what they plan to do with the glut of forwards and smallish defenseman. Trades were happening today, Flames not really in on any of that action.
"Well, we offered Daniel Alfredsson a 6-year deal at $5.9m per year; but he felt he had a better chance at a cup in Detroit. Also, we were in on the bidding for Nathan Horton, and even offered next year's first rounder to get him, but it transpired that through some alternative interpretation of the NHL rules by head office, the trade was not approved because Bostom technically doesn't have the rights to the player any more."
CP's reaction?
'No harm no foul'.

Have you seen some of the deals? Not happening is a good thing I think.
I didn't say anywhere that we needed to sign any body. Maybe it's just me, but I'm tired of Feaster calling press conferences just to talk about woulda-coulda. I prefer the Sutter approach much more.
