Apparently the Bruins are looking at Alfredsson and reconsidering Jagr.

Can't imagine Boston would give a crap if they thought that signing Iginla was what was best for their franchise.
As we can see in this thread and time after time in all sports fans care A LOT more about these rivalries/slights than teams do. GM's are there to win and if Chiarelli thinks that Iginla gives him a chance to win the Cup then he will be there at 12:01 on July 5th with a contract and won't give a crap about what happened at the trade deadline last year.
Now what happened may affect how Chiarelli thinks about Iginla but it wasn't enough to burn the bridge completely.

LOL at all the Iginla sucks, not top 6, 10th forward for Pittsburgh last year comments. Crazy over the last number of days to see how great all the new Flames suddenly are and crap guys like Iginla is. Rebuilding is a tough time for fans.
Iginla should go wherever it makes the most sense for him. I despise the Canucks but if that is what works for him good. It doesn't tarnish his legacy, it isn't a slap in the Flames fans faces and it doesn't change anything about his time here.
He still is without a doubt the best/greatest Flame ever. Still should have his jersey retired ASAP.
I would wish him all the personal success in the world while there and hope that it still wasn't good enough to help the pathetic Canucks win a game.

I think the biggest reason Flames fans does not want Iggy to sign with the Canucks is because we did not want him to tarnish his classy reputation. We don't want him to be associated with divers and floopers like Burrows, Kesler, the Sedins and even Luongo. We respect the guy too much. I also agree that if he really want to win the Stanley Cup before he retires, he should go back to Pittsburgh. Imagine playing with Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin the whole season? If Pittsburgh does not want him he should either go to LA, Chicago, Boston or even Montreal who's getting better.

Ken Hitchcock has close relationship with Iginla, going back to Edmonton days as a scout. We'll see, might not work, but there's interest

Iginla and Bouwmeester reunited? Might as well send them Hudler as well and they can ice a team of ex Flames. I'd be ecstatic to watch that unfold

Don't see where he fits there.
Stewart, Tarasenko, and Rattie will be battling for top 6 there already.
There have been talks of moving one of Oshie or Backes to wing again too if they can sign a better top 6 center.
Don't even really have a top 6 hole at all with Perron, Steen, Oshie, Backes, Berglund, Tarasenko, and Stewart. Plus they have Schwartz, and Rattie banging on the door.
If they move Stewart then it makes some sense I guess. He was in rumors last year and is an RFA right now. Type of guy I would like the Flames to take a flyer on.
25 years old, fills a need on RW, and provides some size even though he might not play up to that size.

I could definitely handle the Blues having Iggy.
However, Iggy can call his own team to play for.

Sweepstakes? I wonder if Iginla's going to host a primetime special like LeBron?

could it be possible to a team to sign a guy to a 1 year deal than quickly extend?
a team like Vancouver who can probably at most give Iginla 4m next year
what if they sign a 1 year 3 deal, and the next day extend it another 2 years for 9m, effectively making it a 3 year deal for 12m (since most teams expect the cap to rise substantially next season)
is there something in the CBA to stop them from doing that?

CBA, article 50.5(f)(iv):
Quote:
A Player who is party to a one-year SPC may not enter into an "extension" of such SPC prior to January 1 of the League Year covered by such SPC.
|
So you'd have to wait till January to extend the deal. By that time, the player may have upped his asking price.

yep completely makes sense, not surprising they put something like that in
I do think we see a lot of players (not Iginla's level) but the mid-level guys, take 1 year deals expecting a higher cap next summer

What an odd statement...what the hell does it matter if he sold house?!??!...is there some reason he should have kept it?
Very bizarre comment, indeed.
Do you think he removed his Alberta license plates as well?

In retrospect it was good timing. I think his area flooded.
Also, you don't know what his motives were for leaving Dodge. He could have a variety of reasons to leave and sell quickly. It doesn't diminish what he did for his team all those years.

There were rumors that St. Louis was looking to trade Perron, so Iginla might fit there if there is a hole in the top six for him. I think that would be a good fit for him actually, and if the Blues can't afford a true star/franchise forward, Iginla would be an appropriate stop gap for a few years.

If Iginla goes to the Blues, likely they move Stewart. They've already been rumoured to be shopping him anyways. Wonder what the asking price would be?

Methinks the lady doth protest too much.
Anyway, you know this thread has gone pretty bonkers when moon is presenting the most reasonable perspective on this situation.
