Of course it does. Instead of popping in to a thread you don't like with trollish comments try reading the whole thread and you'd see that his legacy would be tarnished. Fans make up a big part of a players legacy and he'd lose a lot of respect from most Calgary fans.

just the thought of Iggy wearing a VAN jersey makes me angry and is depressing.

There's a deeper history than just that.
Locker room cancer / hated by all his teammates
Demands trade
States he's "Dieing alive in Pittsburgh"
Trashes organization
Later, apologizes, states he owes career to Mario, claims if he ever returns to NHL he'd want to go back to Pittsburgh, even if it means league minimum
Talks to Pittsburgh, everyone reports he's going there, nostalgia feelings build up... Ends up saying he was "insulted" by the Pens offer, signs to hated rivals for half a mill more. When asked about his previous comments states "things change"

Jarome Iginla is a free agent and he and his family have earned the right to play wherever they please and if that's Vancouver then good on him. He can court the Oilers as well while he's at it for all I care. To me he's nothing but an ex-Flame and I have as little interest in him as I do in Tanguay. The Calgary Flames have moved on past Jarome Iginla and so have I.

That's interesting. Never knew Jagrs relation with the Penguins went down like that

If you're a diehard Flames fan, you've been through a star player leaving many times before.
This wasn't even that bad a situation, it's not like we couldn't afford him because our dollar was at 60 cents.

No doubt about it that is what would happen.
Iginla would turn his love for him into hatred. This isn't a Flames fan thing either this is a sports thing.
Some would cheer his first shift but the masses would boo.
Iginla would be called a traitor.
|
I really, really doubt it. What fraction of the people at the dome on a given night are hardcore fans between the age of 25 and 40 who hate the Canucks? 10 per cent? Between all the businessmen schmoozing, their wives there because the Mentalist is a repeat that night, teenagers out to see and be seen, older fans who don't have any particular hatred of the Canucks, and the loyal fans who have a sense of perspective about Iginla's legacy with the team, the booers would be hugely outnumbered. And they would make themselves look like clowns.
The stars who led the Flames to a President's trophy and Cup with the Flames almost all left on bad terms for more money. They still have a strong legacy with the club. They'll still get cheered when their jerseys are hung from the rafters.

has Iggy burned bridges that the Bruins would not be interested or vice versa?
Apparently the Bruins are looking at Alfredsson and reconsidering Jagr.

Helps that I lost lots of respect for Iginla during the 1st lockout and all his pro-union garbage.
No problems with him signing with the Canucks or Oilers.

I think the catch with Alfredsson saying one more year is he wants it to be in Ottawa.

Did you know that before the NHLPA got organized players used to retire broke, no pensions, nothing to show for their careers while owners raked it in?
If you think that the union is the reason we've had lockouts or that salaries are so high, well, I guess I have to disagree. Most people alive today don't know how things were in all industries before unionization, but it wasn't very pretty.

So much disrespect in this thread for the greatest player ever to put on the flaming C and the savior of this franchise. Dosen't matter where he plays I will always have respect for Iggy even if he plays for the divers. Many people are prisoners of the moment and don't realize how much he did for the franchise. Plus no one should wear #12 for a while.

Yeah because making $5mill/year instead of $7mill would have been such hardship in our country. But we must "think of all our union brothers before me!" I mean Iginla would have to live in Temple or Pineridge in order to make ends meet with $5mil/year.
what garbage.

Compromise - Iggy can play for the Canucks, but his jersey doesn't get retired.

You can argue that he wasn't even the greatest #12 for the Flames.

Meh, at this point who really cares. I suppose having been through watching all the good players from the 89 team leave as free agents or in poor trades, I learned that I'm still a Flames fan first and foremost and once the player leaves the Flames I really don't care too much about them. I don't see any of those teams being able to pay him a huge salary as they all face some sort of cap crunch though. Especially Pittsburgh now that they've upped Dupuis.

If he ends up in Vancouver, so be it. It'll bother me a little bit, but I'll move on. He is still the greatest Flame ever and a player I have a lot of respect for. Jarome's time as a Flame is over, he's free to choose to take his career wherever he feels its best at this time. I don't know why he'd choose Vancouver as I don't see them as cup favourites, but whatever.

I would rather spend 20 years on the Flames and do my best than do 15 years, screw off cause I wanted to touch a Cup and fail at it because "I" wanted it or felt I "deserved" it. There have been many great players in the HOF who never touched a cup and stuck it out with their team cause they were about the team. They were team players- hockey is a team sport. And man would I feel like an ass if I never did touch that Cup for my own selfish purposes and desserted the team and the fans who supported my ass and loved me for years only to not only come up empty handed Stanley wise, but fan wise.

Um if im interpreting this wrong I apologize in advance. It kind of seems like your questioning his loyalty. Just wanted to say his last two contracts showed how loyal he was by resigning with the team for less money then he would have gotten in the open market. This allowed the team to remain competitive and players wanted to play with iggy. He stayed loyal for 15 years never created too much drama with the ####ty teams he had and bad centers. If he stayed a lot of people would have complained then saying he hurt the team by not leaving and not allowing us to get draft picks (not saying you had this view). His whole life he's been a champion memorial cup, world juniors and gold medals he's been chasing his whole life for the Stanley cup. A lot of us don't know what that feels like and what we would sacrifice to go after it.
