It will be interesting to see how influenced his decision will be by money. Iginla is a good guy and was a great player for us for many years, but he has also been completely business minded in every contract negotiation he ever had and always maximized his leverage. I would not be surprised if he goes to a lesser contender in order to make more money.

It's not even necessarily about the money. If you make $4 mil, that's means you're not as valuable around the league as the guys who make $5 mil. In the NHL, salary is status. And these are extremely competitive and status-conscious guys.

Let me get this straight, I wanted Iggy traded for the good of the team for the last couple of years and i was pretty much labelled an "Iggy hater". Now there is talk that he might go to Vancouver and the "white nights" are talking about burning his jersey? I presume that means that you guys would not want the greatest player in flames history to have his # retired also?

Do you guys realise that he does not have a lot of choices, considering he probably wants a top 6 role and at least a chance at the playoffs. Hell one of his choices, the Pens, probably only wanted him back if they couldn't get Dupuis re-signed.

Sorry but CP is acting like a bunch of "whinny" you know what. You guys are pathetic.

It just shows that the fans have an emotional connection to Iggy. It may not be sensible, there may be "whiners", but that is part of being a fan (short for fanatic). For me, he can sign anywhere he wants and I would expect the Flames to raise his number to the rafters after he retires. It just would be strange to see him in a Vancouver jersey.

I would be absolutely devastated if he signed with the Canucks. I have 4 Iggy jerseys and a bunch of Iggy memorabilia. I would burn all that in a second if he signed with them. Go to the Kings please.

Exactly what I'm thinking. If Iggy truly wants a shot at the cup before he retires, he should stay put in Pittsburgh. The Pens won't be nearing a rebuild any time soon with the likes of Sid, Malkin, Letang and others on board. They may not have done it this year but their window is far from closed. Plus he can have a crack at a full season with the team and really figure out his niche on the team. He should take less and stay with the Pens.

I listened to Walker on the radio this morning and this is just a rumour created by him and someone "in Jaromes camp" that he talked with. As Walker stated none of these teams have expressed any interest in Iginla, but these are some of the teams "he may be interested in".

Internet and Twitter rumours are wonderful. Because he tweets something we now have people assuming this is factual, throwing out crap like the Iginla's are getting divorced, his wife wants to be a model and other BS.

That's true, and Iginla also had the added pressure of being a union orientated guy and knowing that his salary infuences what his peers get. Iginla strikes me as a guy that sticks to his principles in that regard.

But it is a little about money too.

Now that they have resigned Dupuis, do they even want Iggy back? I guess they would take him for $2 million, but i can't blame Iggy if he thinks that is a slap in the face.

But the Calgary-Vancouver thing is pretty short-lived. We're talking about what - one playoff series ten years ago? It's a big deal to some Calgary fans of a certain age - not coincidentally an age that's over-represented on this board. But it's not much of a thing otherwise.
Oh phew, thanks for clearing that up for me!

Actually, I'd say the Canucks / Flames rivalry is far from overblown, and it's likely relevant to any of the Flames fans that grew up knowning no other Flames than the Iginla powered Flames. Personally I'm in an age where my childhood and fond memories of the Flames are of the late 80's early 90's Flames, but my young adult years have been all about the Iginla Flames so I can see both.

I fully agree, a Flame from the 80's or 90's going to play for the Nucks, likely not that big a deal, the BOA was really the thing back then. But there was no bigger rival for the Flames during Iginla's tenure as a Flame than the Nucks, and give we are talking about Iginla, I'd say the Nucks / Flames thing is not overblown, and all that really matters is how it's seen in the eyes of the Flames fans in question, not what some eastern based writters feel are the NHL's greatest rivalries.

I don't worry that much about what Iggy does.

To me its like a divorce, there's probably a little bitterness on both sides between the Flames (the whole Bruins thing) and Iginla (This team gave up on me).

But in a divorce, if the ex wife wants to screw around with the meth dealing scumbag down the street there's really nothing that the ex husbands or his friends can do about it.

If you weren't throwing a reference to East Hastings originally, I'm taking it anyway!
