I take the Wife.... She is a no nonsense negotiator when it comes to these things. It is amazing how she has all these salespeople calling her telling her to come back in because they "found" new pricing.

Yeah but she'll like the $10K bedroom set, and you'll like the $2K set

Oh yeah, from your original list, Leon's and Ashley have the "best" furniture. Ashley can get expensive though. They do negotiate quite readily.

As a Purchasing Representative, this thread makes me happy

You dont get anything if you don't ask.

A couple other points to negotiate:

Delivery \ and or install costs
Warranty
Options: my wife liked the throw pillows on the floor model, they threw them in
payment terms : Cash? Credit card? pay before delivery or after? Amazing how Cash payment will get you a discount

Bumping an old thread.

Of all of the retailers listed, would a more expensive place like Mcarthur's allow for negotiating on price? It strikes me as a place where if you have to ask a out price, you can't afford it. Between that place and somewhere like Chintz & Comapny or those places in the design district, I'm curious if anybody has had luck getting deals from places like that.

If you like something at Macarthur's, go to Sandlewood furniture near Ikea. It's vastly cheaper for the same items.

Great heads up, but I was just curious about negotiating with higher end furniture retailers.

Although if Macarthur's knows that Sandlewood has the same items, it does help with leverage. -Not that I'd be buying anything from Macarthur's to start with.

One item that I purchased from there was a cabinet. Mac's best price was a shade over $3200. At Sandlewood it was just over $1900. It's a fairly large amount off

Bump

Has anyone had any luck negotiating with Leon's. The wife and I found a couch set that we really liked (and were willing to purchase some home decor as well). Asked the guy for their best price and he went into the whole "we do integrity pricing, so what you see is what you get. We don't raise our prices like the Brick so that you can deal on it, blah, blah."
Then he goes and talks with the manager and says that he can give us 5% off because we were in the week before looking and they were having a VIP sale with a minimum 5% off. But that was only if we took the fabric care option (which was $130). So all in all we were only getting the GST off. Total was around $1750 for just the couch and love seat, plus fabric protection and delivery (we live an hour outside of Lethbridge).
We found couches that we liked at the Brick (which I don't want to buy from), for $1400 all in. I mentioned that to him and told him that we would be willing to offer $1500 all in. He came back and said no dice and just a flat out no. No counter, nothing! Just a no, 5% off is our best off. Take it or have a good day. Has anyone else had any luck negotiating with Leon's or am I SOL?

^ I got 10% off my bedroom set a couple of years ago, which included king bed, dresser, 2 end tables, and mattresses. But after reading this thread, it doesn't seem like I got enough... =/

Call the store and ask to speak to somebody in the commercial sales department. If they ask where you got it to call them- tell them your realtor mentioned it.

They have more wiggle room; especially if you are calling up with model numbers and are ready to place the order.

I like that they talking crap about the Brick to try to get you to buy. They own The Brick. Agree with Ken, call commercial sales or even go to the store manager to try and score a better deal.
