Regardless of who they have in net, and I think Mason can hold them in. That forward group is a contender.

A contender for what exactly ? Hold them into what ? they cut loose Briere and fill in the spot with Vinny. Loose Bryz in favor of Mason who quite frankley is not his rookie self anymore. Timmonen is old, I don't know man....now they are gonna have to shed some cap space too. I don't see them making the playoffs next year like this year. Bryz was a head case, but was a better goalie than Mason. You need a goalie to be a contender for anything.

If they can get Thomas or Nabokov for cheap, I think they'll be a contender.

They'll probably sign Thomas.

Matt Read is due for a new contract after the 2013-2014 season becoming a UFA. Look for the Flames (and every other team in the league) to try to sign him because surely Philly won't be able to afford him.

For a season, maybe even two. As one poster said I think they're going all in because their Owner is 80 and badly wants to win one before he passes on.

Read's deal makes him a prime candidate to be kept for the season and lost as a free agent.

The Flyers don't go cheap with anyone. They'll throw 5 years, 30 mill at Thomas...they are that idiotic.

Well there were rumors earlier in the year saying that Thomas wants to play for the Flyers, so if that's true I could see him signing there on a 1 year cheap contract to redeem himself.

I'm sure he does. But I think they are gonna need a much better game plan than a 39 year old goalie who hasnt played a whole season, or a soon to be 38 year old with an old defence.

The Flames brass, Weisbrod in particular, really really like Matt Read and have tried to trade for him before, so don't be surprised to see them whip out the wallet next year and sign him to a contract most won't be happy about

I think they are right and that he can score 30 goals if given top 6 opportunity

As soon as you said Lecavalier is 4x better than Briere I could ignore the rest of your post because you clearly have no idea wth you are saying. Except for that last line...weren't they a damn good team on paper last year too? How did that turn out...

			Holy Crap Vincent.
Last 4 years he received $43M (avg 10.75/yr with cap hit of $7.7/yr). Then he gets $32.67M on buyout and now another $22.5M from Philly to be a 2nd line C?

 He has achieved:
1 cup in 2004 (He was dominant in game 7, but it should have been over in 6)
 1 Rocket Richard Trophy in 2007 (52G)

 zero MVPs, zero scoring titles

only the one 50+ goal season, only one 100+ point season

only five seasons 30+goals, only three seasons with 1+ point per game

will he be a Hall of Famer? He is already 33.

Has anyone been paid so much for so little?

Dipietro did far less but was paid wayyy less too.

God I hate the Flyers. I cannot wait for the day when they hit rock bottom and are forced to rebuild over a 5 year period. Holmgrem is the new D.Sutter

If the Hall of Fame ever runs into financial trouble, they can always induct his money.
