And Matt Stajan breathes a sigh of relief.
Kind of funny too that Stajan's contract helped set the bar for expensive tweener contracts like that of Jones. They should get along great.

Meh. Only player I'd want out of the 4 is Cory Sarich. 3 useless soft defensively terrible players.

He was suppose to rack up points with all those good players in Tampa but that didn't go very well. Tanguay is a slower pace player, we'll have to see if he can keep up with the younger players on that team. Also I thought Tanguay didn't want to play on a rebuilding team...

I would have rather tried to sign Fistric instead of getting O'brien. Similar players , but less baggage.

Christ, MacTavish spent a year in jail but somehow managed to become a very effective player for years after a fresh start.
The way people want to permanently punish others, without even knowing any facts, is truly incredible.

And to add to this, regarding Tanguay, there've been at least two occasions of him being a guy who's moped and shown he can easily mail it in when things are not perfect for him.
He sulked last year, and he also sulked during his first go around here under Keenan.
Bottom line, Tanguay absolutely needed to be eradicated from this team ASAP because his attitude problems were becoming greater than his good (one-dimensional) hockey skills. Plus, he pretty much stated in no uncertain terms that he wanted out.

One thing this trade probably puts to bed is the belief by some here that Iginla would return to the Flames again. Prior to the Pittsburg trade numerous Flames fans hoped Jarome would be traded for some assets and then return to the club. In moving JI right hand man, I think most can close the door on that chapter and move forward if they hadn't already do so.

So glad you popped in here to show that you have absolutely no clue.
Good on you for sticking to form.

So he goes to the team who are about to make the first pick in the draft...Granted the Avalanche had no business being as bad as they were.
I think it's more about him being willing to join Roy and Sakic back in Denver. One more trip on the nostalgia wagon where he should be allowed to do what he prefers.

I think selling his house shortly after being traded pretty much slammed the door shut on any possible return to Calgary.

I don't see how anyone can hate this trade right now. Yes, it'd be better if we could've got a decent draft pick. But really, I don't know why we should be that surprised they couldnt've got any more value for Tanguay.
Think about it, Tanguay mailed it in after Iggy was traded (scored 3 pts in his last 10 games and made no effort to play any defense). Then he even admits it in the press at the end of the season that he did exactly that!
It's not unreasonable to think that a bunch of other teams also got a hold of the fact that he admitted to the media that he did this very thing near the end of the year.
So why should it be any great surprise that he doesn't have very good trade value after this?

I don't think the points Tanguay puts up in Colorado are of any importance to Calgary for two reasons:
1) No good reason to believe that he would do the same here
2) His top 6 minutes would take away opportunities from Sven
Hopefully Jones performs well, but if he doesn't it isn't the end of the world.

Assuming no other trades, it will probably be Hudler, Stempniak, and Cammalleri as the top 3 shooters. They're the only current Flames who have taken more than 10 shootout attempts in their careers, and their shooting percentages are all greater than 25%.

No guarantees, but I'm sure David Jones can find his Avs form of 2010-11 & 11-12. After all, Hartley managed to help Stajan to recover alot of his form that he lost when he first came here after leaving the Leafs, so I'm sure he can help revive Jones' offensive touch too.
If nothing else, Jones should at least get plenty of opportunity to find that offense again here, but even if he doesn't I still think this trade will be a slight win for the Flames.

And for this reason alone I hope the Flames give the Kids a chance at the shootout. No one will have scouted their moves yet and perhaps, just maybe, they'll show a bit of creative flair that we have sorely been missing in the abomination known as the shootout.

It is clear to me that Tangs was not getting the interest that we thought Feaster might get involving 2013 draft picks.
Maybe the best Feaster was being offered in return was a 3rd and he said no way we have this trade on the table with COL. Lets go that route instead.
It wouldn't be surprising to learn that Feaster shopped Tanguay and 2 of the 1st round picks to COL,FLA,TB,NSH and they had no interest in that offer to move to the 6th pick.
I thought Tangs would have fetched a 2nd round pick but i am still happy with the trade moving 2 aged and aging players clearly not in the Flames future plans.

Sounds like how Blake Comeau was going to find his NYI form of 27 goals.
We all know how that worked out.
The biggest problem I have with this trade is getting two guys who are rumored to be bad apples in the dressing room. That is the LAST thing we need going forward with all of these young guys that will be on the team.
Shane O'Brien is a joke. The guy has always taken the stupidest penalties at the worst times throughout his career. He is an idiot on and off the ice. Wait till we see he is paired up with Chris Butler. Ugh.
Hopefully Jones, horrified by his 3 goals last year has something to prove. He was bad. 4 million a year till 2016? To the people that are saying "Meh, we have cap room to burn, it's ok" It is not ok. Say Horak, Backlund and Knight all out score him next season. Think they'll be happy signing deals for less than he makes? Just throws the salary structure of the team out of wack. Not to mention if he is a bust we have that contract on the books for 3 years.
I remember watching a Flames/Avs game and my buddy turned to me and said, can you believe Jones makes 4 M a year? That makes Matt Stajan look like a steal. Sadly I agreed with him. Now he is a Flame.
Sometimes I honestly wonder if Feaster watches hockey.
