Well the reason his totals may come has everything to do with role. Will Tanguay be able to beat out Landeskog, O'Reilly, Parenteau and Downie? Not sure why he would. So he could end up on the third line in Colorado which is a far cry from the 1st line role he was handed here.

Tanguay may do well but he's gonna have to earn it or get lucky with injuries to players ahead of him.

I would have rather just done Tanguay for Jones straight up, but I still think this is an alright trade. Not really going to affect us in the long term either way, had to dump the Tanguay contract but needed to take a bad one back in return

2. Sarich had NO value. I love the guy because he is a old school guy that always shows up to play, but it was clear that he was not in Hartley's plans and it was also clear he wanted out.
3. Alex Tanguay's sole purpose of being here was to pass the puck to Iginla. Iginla is now gone, and Alex's role becomes obsolete.
4. David Jones scored 47 goals between 2010 and 2012. If he can get 50-60 in the next three seasons I will be a happy camper. He is 6'2", 28 years of age, and has an effort level twice that of Tanguay's.
5. O'Brein is meh. But he is younger.
6. More ice time and a more offensive role for Sven

Addition by subtraction as far as I can see. The fact that we got 2 live bodies back is really inconsequential. As others have mentioned, keeping Tanguay on a rebuilding team was not going to help anyone. Once his BFF was traded, he was done in Calgary. Sarich was a warrior, but way past his prime and really, offering very little to the Flames at this point.

Good trade in my opinion.

I say Feaster just goes out and collects all the Jones' in the NHL. How many bags of pucks do the Oilers want for Randy? Feature now must trade up to get Seth. I want to see an all-Jones line!

Tanguay should do quite well in Colorado. He's been reunited with Roy and sakic and heyduk as well.

Really..... How in the heck did a team with all that great talent finish dead last in the league?

Stasny is that much better than Stajan? He got 24 points in 40 games.... playing on this team with the great top line talent is so good it embarrasses the Flames. Oh Stajan (who was untradeable) had 23 points in 43 games and was +7 rather than Stasny's -7.

Jones will be getting an upgrade at the Centre spot if he plays with Stajan rather than Stasny.

Tanguay WAS a 60 point guy playing with 30-40 goal power forward Iginla. In his prime as a 29 year old playing on a Tampa team with better top line talent than Colorado he was a 37 pt in 80 game floater.

Iginla 2011-12 was a better player than anyone currently on Colorado's roster..... by a lot.

Happy the flames get bigger and younger but what does this do for the shoot out? Who would be the top 3 shooters now?

Unless the league changes the rules and makes the shoot out after the first period , i would not worry about it.

We have the luxury of taking on bad contracts. That's an asset, not a problem. Being willing to take on Jones' contract allowed us to:

A) Dump our worst contract on another team.
B) Get a 28-year-old who will likely isn't available (at what we were offering anyway) if he has a $2 million cap hit.

I agree to an extent, but Stastny has become pretty much a disaster of a hockey player. He's not the Stastny of even three seasons ago. He has all of the appearances of a player that can't wait to go home to Europe.

Stajan had a pretty good all around game last year and a massive leap forward to the previous years.

While he's not an offensive force, he's a guy that doesn't hurt you when he's on the ice and can certainly chip in on offense.

If Stastny isn't generating offense he's stapled to the bench.

Lets not hype him too much. He's not a great player anymore.

Like the trade. I put absolutely zero stock in anything that happened in Colorado last year. Way too much talent on that team to finish last in the year. I think the coaching was brutal for the Avs last year and I will take Jones' and O'Brien's seasons as anomalies.

I'm just glad Tanguay is gone, never liked the second time around. And I think O'Brien will win a lot of fans over. He's not the greatest by any means but I think we will like what he brings as it is something the Flames sorely lack.

1) Stastny is from Quebec

2) I agree that Stastny is not near a #1 center but i would take him over Stajan any day of the week and twice on Sunday if contract money did not count. Anybody that thinks Stajan is as good or better than Stastny is out to lunch.
