You're question said "should we have". Hindsight was implied.

The clock is already ticking on O'Brien ending up in the Calgarypuck dog house. It won't be pretty.

Eh fair enough.
Your* :P
But anyways, we didn't know he was going to be a buyout candidate, I'm ok with what we gave up Regehr for considering the circumstances at the time

Hopefully he will be our 7th D-man anyways so I'm not too worried about him being in the dog house or not. More so I'll be pleasantly surprised if he earns a regular shift with the team.
It's Jones I'll be watching with a bit more of a microscope, will he be like Bourque post contract and just keep playing lazy like he did this last season? Or was that just a blip because of the total cluster**** that was the Avalanche last year, and he will be back to a 20-25 goal scorer with a competent coach at the helm?

First of all, its three more years, not four. Secondly, calling him a 10 point 3rd liner is no different than me calling him a 27 goal scoring 2nd liner.
|
Because Jones most certainly scored 9 points (rounded to ten) and ended it on the 3rd line. I figured a 3rd line player who tallied all of 9 points could be labeled as such, my appologies

except that paying a front loaded 9million dollar per year for the first 2 seasons and then 7 per year afterwards more or less assured that Richards, a "post apex" player, would never be able to be good value.
Lots of posters let out a HUGE sigh of relief when that offer fell through. I know i did and posted as much.

Can't say I'm excited about the deal. 3 years at 4 million for Jones is pretty steep. It does make the team bigger and a younger. I suppose pending UFA O'Brien can garner a slightly better return at the deadline in 2015 than Sarich could this year. Still seems like the Flames took on more money in terms of total dollars owed in hopes of improving the chemistry on a rebuilding team.
Oh well, O'Brien will love the Stampede.

According to this he had 3 fights in 2011-12 (against Sutton, Oreskovich and Glass), none listed for 2012-13 season:

Jones could be the next Glencross like acquisition. Not at all a brutal player.

I tried writing a good reply, but your post was just so filled with ridiculous content, and Hells Bells had just explained to you how narrow your viewpoint was, that I just pressed bag and enter without any content. My bad, I actually did want to write something there haha.

You said he's a 10 point 3rd liner, his totals from last year (in 33 games which you failed to mention). Why ignore his previous seasons when he was much better?
If you can say he's a 10 point 3rd liner then I can say he's a 27 goal scorer, which he did the year before.

This thread is making me laugh. Some of you really need to find something more substantial to worry about.
Win or lose this trade isn't going to make a lick of difference to the future of the Flames.

What he does do is put his teams on the PK a lot. He averages about 30 minor penalties a year which is a lot for a guy who doesn't play a lot.

Do we really care about cap hit and dollars right now? Are we really concerned about being able to sign players?
For the first time in awhile I don't give two hoots about dollars and cap hits. Im not sure Tanguay would have been a 100% positive influence in the youngens. And these guys will add to a new identity for the team. I'm certainly not ecstatic, but this is an acceptable deal for the club.
I would have hoped for a second for Tanguay though. My guess is that wasn't even possible.

Man, can't believe I'm pointing this out, since it's so very obvious (and maybe you're just being sarcastic and I didn't catch it), but here goes:
He can say Jones is a 2nd line player scoring 27 goals just as easily as you can say he's a 9 point 3rd liner. Why? Because Jones has done one of each in separate seasons.

And how much did Glencross make when we first acquired him? Hell, how much does he make now?
