Tanguay has 0 value to the Flames on the roster, not the type of player we need now in style or in age, and Tanguay has limited to know trade value, he was not in demand.
This seems to be the best option to explore IMO if the options with Tanguay are 1) keep him on the roster, 2) buy him out, 3) accept this trade. It's really a no risk move for the Flames.

I obviously don't like this trade, however I understand how both sides can say they "won". Both teams trade players on bad contracts, Jones/O'Brien adds much needed size to our lineup, Tangs/Sarich adds a veteran presence and a proven top 6 player to the Avs. However I have a feeling people will get frustrated fast with Jones and O'Brien.

Oh man, and I thought I couldn't hate Clusterf&*k any more than I do already. If he ends up on the greasers that will multiply my hatred exponentially.

Tanguay is a good hockey player, when the conditions are perfect for hin to suceed. That's not going to happen here over the next 3 years.
He will probably bounce back in Colorado since he has talent to play with, and will work hard for Roy and Sakic.
But for the Flames this is still a good deal, bigger, stronger, and younger.
Win-Win for both teams.

Yeah I remember the same song and dance "but but but Comeau scored 20+ goals before"
Not expecting more than a Moss/Comeau clone

Not a fan but I don't absolutely hate it. Jones is a terrible contract just awful but he has potential to bounce back a little bit. I was hoping Tangs had more value but not surprised this is all we got. I will not be shocked if we use a compliance buyout on Jones next summer.
No surprise this trade is being totally destroyed on hf
Sarich for SOB? Meh

this deal is a win considering both Tanguay and Sarich, at their ages and with their existing contacts, have negative value.

26.79 if you don't remove the free agents.
With the free agents that they likely won't be re-signing, it's 25.28.

Hmm, they are?
I'm struggling to come up with an example of a trade that I can compare with this one that would fit your description. We took on extra salary, which is unlike what a lot of other rebuilding teams would do, especially when they are trying to dump an 'albatross'. When I think of a rebuilding trade, I think of trading a contract like Tanguay for draft picks or trading Sarich at the deadline for a marginal pick (which he likely would have gotten for us this upcoming deadline). Not really trading off a player at their lowest value.
I actually don't understand what the trade accomplishes. We got younger, yes, but we also got worse in terms of talent, we actually gave up some character in terms of Sarich for a complete doofus in SOB and we took money back.
Is it a bad trade? Not really. Does it help the 'rebuild'? Doubtful, and it might set us back a bit.

With Jones we could have something better than Tanguay next season. With Tanguay we couldn't.
Then again, with a 2nd rounder we could have something better, younger and cheaper than Jones in a couple of years.
I'll just wait and see, but I feel like our team is going to be even more painful to watch next season.

They are amongst the gaggle of older second and third line wingers that do not provide enough leadership and / or performance to warranty them being keepers in this rebuilding phase.
The kids deserve better as does the organization.
The last 10 games were not a fluke. See their numbers....more importantly did you see their effort.
It will take some time but the previous culture and mindset is almost all gone.

Whatever? Whatever?
I wouldn't want a guy with discipline issues anywhere near our rookies.
But I guess its just Tanguay and his moping thats an issue...

NOOOOO!!!! I know there is no room for a guy like Tanguay anymore but I really enjoyed watching him in a Flames uniform. One of my favorite Flames and players in general. With no Iggy to pass to, this had to happen.
