This forum is so eff'd some times. People bitched and complained that the Flames were small, old and soft. They get younger, bigger and tougher and they still complain
Next season is a wash anyhow, I really don't expect the Flames to finish higher than 25 or so to me it's no big deal that a disinterested player and an aging player are out the door.
The hope here is that Jones can maybe find some chemistry with someone and regain his old form. With regard to SOB, Flames need some bitterness (might be stupidity at times) in front of the net...SOB brings that.
Ya have to admit i flipped flopped a couple times on this trade. At first i liked it for the reasons you stated above. Then i looked at capgeek and did not like it. Now i like it again, realising that the flames are going to be nowhere near cap trouble in the next couple of seasons so the money really does not matter.

the Jones Family no stranger to Calgary: Wes Gilbertson @SUNGilbertson13s#Flames acquisition David Jones lived in Calgary for a few years as a kid and his wife, Kim, was U of Calgary student.
Wes Gilbertson @SUNGilbertson40s#Flames Jones on reaction from his wife: “She's pretty ecstatic that, of all the places to be traded, Calgary is the one that came up.”

Don't love it, don't hate it. If Jones can rebound he'll be a useful player. SOB is ind of garbage, but he brings some toughness.........and if this team is going to be icing a younger team sprinkled in with a couple/few rookies I want them to be protected if anybody starts messing with them.
Tanguay wanted out at the end of the season.......had to get rid of him asap.
We're at the floor now. Doesn't Jones have 3 more years left?
Tanguay brings more to the table even at his age than both the players we received. This team has one first line caliber player left. One.
Tanguay hasn't been a first line player for a few years. Only Iginla made him look like one here. Tanguay had 3 years left as well and he would have been 37 when the contract ran out, Jones will be 31.

Also, everyone on the flames that is older than Mikael Backlund is basically irrelevant. They will not be here once the Flames are good again, so it doesn't really matter. Getting good people that can hopefully teach the younger players good habits should be priority #1. Beyond that it doesn't matter.

I'd rather not trade him if the return is a worse contract for the same duration.
We got a declining player with a worse contract. You can bookmark this thread. I am calling it now. By this time next year, Tanguay is going to be the better asset than Jones. In fact, I think the same will be true 2016 when both deals are up.
I'll take that action.
I think Jones thrives with the change of scenary here. I think Tanguay does more harm then good with the Avs

If Sarich had any value at the deadline, he would've been shipped out this past trade deadline.
I'm willing to bet he'd get a lot more interest as a playoff rental than with that extra year on his contract.
Bottom line is Colorado got two players that can at least be called assets, even if it is a doofus for doofus trade. Nobody is giving up picks and prospects for Jones or O'Brien, so it's a loss in terms of opportunity cost.
Feaster got jobbed.
Again.

Sorry I don't see the attitude problem. Players shouldn't be happy with losing.
The problem isn't that he was unhappy about losing, it's the fact that rather than play harder to try not to lose, all Tanguay did was pout and check out for the remainder of the season.

I was kind of looking forward to seeing how Jones would play under Roy...last year he just seemed to be a floater (and this stood out on a team of floaters). Glad to see SOB go, rumors were that he was the Vegas trip guy, and based on his history with other teams, I believe that he was PART of the problem in the Avs locker room.
I'm a bit happy to see Tangs back with the offensive talent that the Avs have. Sarich always seemed like a decent enough character.
I hope Jones is able to turn his game around in Calgary, I always had high hopes for him in Colorado.
so just like last summer a re-load? rather than the very necessary rebuild?
trading for Vanek would be almost as bad as the ROR debacle
Kind of. With Cammy and Tanguay apparently on the way out. we still need to meet the cap floor and a player like vanek isn't locked in long term. I dont see how this is seen as a re-load. We need good nhl'ers to ice a team with all the kids.
Tanguay may be the most talented player in the deal, but th Flames don't need what he brings. They need guys like Jones and SOB to take care of the kids.
I don't care how many games we win this year but I sure as hell don't want to see Baertschi and Backlund beat on all year.
And I think Jones will be the best player in this trade over he next 3 years (though Tangs should do well in Col)
Good trade for both teams
