I can't help but wonder if Feaster is really down on either Monahan or Lindholm. When he offered the Av's 3 1st rounders, does that mean that McKinnon (assumption here) is that much better or does it mean he wants to make sure he isn't 'stuck' with the player (Monahan/Lindholm) that he doesn't like?

I assume it's the former, but I would not be shocked if Nurse isn't the Flames pick.

Everyone knows MacKinnon is that much better.

With the Flames taking Jankowski last year I can see the logic in this, but I hope not. I seriously to god hope not. This team has been in dire need of quality centers for two decades, and they usually only come in the top 10, so I hope they do not blow this pick on a defenseman who rose so quickly this past year. Nurse went from unranked in the top 30 prospects at the start of the season to number 11 at mid season and is now a top six pick? Meteoric risers like that scare me. Nurse was good, but he did play on a team that had two defenseman crack 20 goals this past season. Individual success or systematic success? I take Lindholm or Monahan long before I take Nurse or any other defenseman in the first round. We need depth at all positions, but most pressing is in the middle. Take a center!

But this horse has been beaten, buried, exhumed and beaten again and had an autopsy done and cremated. Three more sleeps and this can be over.
Unless the Flames go off the board they can't 'lose' with the 6-overall. I am more concerned that Feaster gets hosed in a trade then him messing up the 6-overall.

If Nashville is staying put then they have their sites set on Barkov, IMO. That leaves Carolina to choose Nurse because they need a defenseman. I think it's highly likely the Flames take Nichushkin and I don't mind that. What if he turns out to be super elite? He will make the team right away too.

Canes "intrigued" by Nichushkin:
Quote:
“He’s a very intriguing player,” Carolina Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said this week.
Carolina, barring a trade, will have the No. 5 overall pick in the draft, its highest since 2005. If Nichushkin is available when the time comes Sunday, the Canes may not be able to pass on him.
There should be other promising options at No. 5 – forwards such as Sean Monahan of the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League and Elias Lindholm, who played well in the Swedish Elite League as a 17-year-old last season. If defenseman Seth Jones isn’t taken with one of the top four picks, he may be Carolina’s target, but Rutherford said the Canes are “leaning” toward selecting a forward.
Quote:
Rutherford said the Canes have planned 11 player interviews in New York this week before Sunday’s draft at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. One of the first was to be with Nichushkin and his agent, Mark Gandler.
“We will have a very good dialogue with the player,” Rutherford said.
Gandler also represents Russian forward Alexander Semin, who signed with Carolina as a free agent last July and later agreed to a five-year contract extension. Semin, 29, could help mentor a player such as Nichushkin.

With Tampa buying out Lecavalier (C) and the general consensus was Drouin (LW) to Tampa.

It's possible Tampa trade down to get one of monahan/lindholm if the price is right IMO.

To me it appears buying out Levavalier could be paving the way for them to take Barkov with the 3rd pick. Not sure why they would trade down for Monahan/Lindholm when they can address that need with a better prospect in Barkov.

The only reason I can think of is if a team added a Roster player that can make immediate impact.

I agree with the poster a few posts above. Is there a reason no one is talking about Lindholm anymore??

I had a dream last night that the draft looked like:
1) Mackinnon 2) Jones 3) Nikushkin 4) Barkov 5) Nurse 6) Drouin

“You know, we went off the list a few times last year,” says John Weisbrod, assistant general manager of the Flames. “Usually you have to go off the list when you’re taking players that fit into a different compartment. Goaltenders are on a separate list. So we went off the list, so to speak, to take Jon Gillies in the third round (75th overall).

I’m obviously glad we did. This guy is arguably our best prospect at this point.”

if they really believe that, no reason at all to take Fucale

Amusing detail about Barkov: his mentor Ville Nieminen will travel to the draft with him and his family. He brings his winger everywhere.

Nieminen is Barkov's mentor? I want Barkov even more now.

I wonder if Nieminen has learned the lyrics of "O Canada" yet?

I've seen Barkov smile, there's barely any teeth visible, the mentoring is obviously not getting through.
