I just recently remembered that the new CBA (Section 50.5.c) does not allow performance bonuses to be used in calculating if a team reaches the Salary Floor. Therefore the "Wang-Islanders solution" has been neutralized.

Getting to the cap floor isn't going to be a problem, even if Kipper retires, unless we trade away a few more vets.
For a team in the Flames position, there really isn't any drawback to giving him the max rookie bonuses, as the Flames aren't going to have salary cap issues for the next two years, plus it is good incentive to get him to come here. If he earns every bonus available, he would be well worth all of that money.

yeah, but still a bit steep for a college guy, isn't it? Cervenka I could understand, those bonuses were necessary to sway him to come over, given that he earned a lot in Europe already ... but Knight? Weird to fork out the rookie max if it's not cap related.
Guess it's not a big deal, just surprising.

Not really. Go back and look at highly regarded college (pending) UFAs. They get rookie max generally. It would be surprising if it was for less.

If you believe the reports, he was most likely going to get that anyways if he reached UFA on August 15.

Not really.
Sustr and Brown were signed for $1.35 million. Dekeyser as well.
Tory Krug was $1.75 IIRC.
We certainly won't have issues attracting those type of players anymore, if we are handing out more than double the going rate in bonus structured contracts.

He's not just a college guy, he is a top rated college prospect who was a top 10 Hobey Baker finalist, has grown into a better player than origionally drafted, tops in the nation (2nd) in face-offs, was a PPG player even though prides himself on the defensive game, is a 6'2 210 lb centerman who could step in as easily as a Justin Shultz. You go after guys like that just like how everyone wanted Justin Shultz. At this point, you are just paying money for talent vs having to give up assets for it. It's a low risk, high reward move. Hell, if memory serves me right, and I may be wrong here, but I think we might be paying Nemo in the minors over a million.

If the Flames grab Nichushkin I wonder if these two players would make a great duo. Both have size and power and I believe Knight could eat up the garbage goals that Nichushkin could miss on his drives to the net.

He only makes 65K in the AHL, but his cap hit is 1.04M to Calgary.

Is what we're currently looking at. Definitely need to offload 1-2 more aging vets. Making room for Reinhart will be tough.. Even more so if we draft a centerman at #6 that they feel can slot in next season as well.

Tanguay - Stajan - Cammalleri
I believe Feaster will have moved every single player from this line before the end of training camp

I sincerely hope 2 of them will be gone.
Stajan earned some cred last year, he deserves to stick around. This team needs more defensively responsible forwards, not fewer of them.

My crack at the forwards, if Tanguay is traded (hold onto Cammalleri until the draft):
Baertschi - Backlund - Cammalleri
Glencross - Stajan - Hudler
Stempniak - Knight - Horak
Jackman - Bouma - Mcgrattan
Byron/Nemisz
Cundari - Wideman
Gio - BRODIE
Butler - Smith
Breen/Sarich
Stemp, Cammalleri, Sarich to be dealt at the draft.
(yes i know that lineup sucks)

It disturbs me that you have left out Calgary's best player from your lineup.
