Actually, Fleury still has 2 more goals and 18 more playoffs points than Iginla. Both were important members of Team Canada. Fleury has a Cup. Fleury had better numbers in the dead-puck era. They both spent some seasons on awful teams and some seasons on stacked teams (those Flames teams were spending the the cap). Their playoff success is arguably identical (except for Fleury won the Cup on his only trip past round 1). Iginla "was in conversation as arguably the best player in the game", but conversations only mean so much and Iginla didn't win neither Cup nor Conn Smyth. It could be argued that Fleury was critical in keeping franchise in Calgary (although it doesn't mean much for HOF). I just don't see why they are considered to be on different levels altogether.

The biggest difference is probably their goal totals. Iggy will likely score 600+

Still, in playoffs their goal totals are very simliar:
Fleury has 34 in 77 games (.43) and Iginla has 32 in 69 games (.46).

They both should be in the Hall of Fame, but Fleury became an embarrassment at the end of his career. Hopefully HOF voting committee looks pass that.

How does a Corban Knight traded to Calgary thread turn into Iginla vs. Fleury?
This is a great move... Knight is exactly what the Flames need.

Nice pick up.
Center, check
Right handed shot, check
Two way player, check
Face off potential/ability, check
Ready to push for an NHL spot, check
Has a lot of attributes our prospect pool sorely lacks, hopefully he pans out and we end up with a Chris Kelly type guy, or maybe even better.

Good pick up but I think we need to temper expectations for Knight.
He is good depth for the future but don't think we should expect the kid to just walk into the Flames lineup next season.
College to the NHL is a big step and he is probably still a bit of a project. He has put up similar college numbers to Agostino and Hanowski and I don't think anybody was nearly as excited about the acquisition of those players.

I would really like it if we could come out of the draft with some combination of Monahan, Morin, Zykov. Or swap Zykov for the best RD available.

I play hockey with a few guys that know Corbin well, and they mentioned last night that if this kid doesn't make it in the show they'd be suprised because all he ever did was play hockey and train. He never really partied or behaved like a teenager. He was always focused because he knew he wanted to be a pro hockey player.
I thought it was interesting insight into his personality, work ethic and dedication from people who know him first-hand.
Oh, and I made a comment that he behaved that way because his dad was a pastor, but they said they knew plenty of kids with dads that were pastors that were a complete ####show LOL...

Iginla was a good person and a stand up guy while Fleury was a bit of a ######bag. That comes into play when voting is done. The HHOF is for people who have contributed positively to the game. Fleury doesn't fall in that group. He's as famous for his negatives (punch up in Pustany, substance abuse, Graham James) as he is for his on ice performance.

Graham James is his negative????????? I would think that his efforts in regards to that are a giant positive

Lots of jerks in the HOF. It isn't the King Clancy award.

Why don't one of you guys start a new thread?
Discussion on Corban Knight is why I click on this thread when I see there are new posts.

Corban Knight is the new Theo Fleury. Isn't it obvious?

The lineups clearly didn't include our veterans. Guys like Glencross, Wideman, Gio, Stempniak, Hudler, etc

I hope Knight has the skills to make the big club after pre season. He certainly has the size. Wouldn't he be the biggest center we currently have 6'2, 200 lbs ?
Also how come the Flames have to wait until July to sign a contract he is their property now?

I viewed them more as a prospect depth chart / long term projections and not actual lineups.
What was really nice was that even with your analysis there was room for surprises still. Someone like Howse, who has fallen off a lot of people's radar, could still pull himself together and turn into a viable prospect.
Our prospect base has improved so much over the last decade.

I think it has been speculated that they are at 50 contract limit until July 5.

Couldn't they sign him for a contract that kicks in July 5th though? Am I missing something? Ramage's contract doesn't kick in until July 5th, so what would be the difference with Knight?

maybe it has something to do with burning a year or saving a year off their ELC. The CBA in's and out's are so tricky.
