They should be at least in the ball park of what Jankowski is. There are too many above average prospects available unless we go off the board for no reason.

If the Flames draft top 5 next season (with their own pick and if they do not trade the pick), you can never bring up the idea of Clutterbuck for a first round pick again on CP.
If the Flames draft outside of the top 5 (based on standings), I will have a sig or avatar of your choice.
|
Sure. But after next year it will never happen. He'll get a 4-5 year contract this year.
Also if the Clutterbuck becomes a Flame i want you to change your name to clutterbuck87. hehe

100% Irving should have had the net to finish out the season...for more reasons than just the draft pick...just to make certain he did or did not deserve another contract...he didn't earn that las shot, but the Flames should have given him one due to the situation.

Ugh, we didn't need the 1st overall! That was going to be Jones anyways. This offer should have been made to Florida for #2. (and they probably would've been more willing than COL).. MacKinnon is who we need. What a waste of an offer.. And now we look desperate and vulnerable, and ready to hand out 1sts like candy.
I wish the media hadn't got their hands on this info. Too bad. But maybe Feaster heard that other teams were offering packages and picks to COL, so he thought he'd put a bid in.
I think the only top 4 player that we'd be able to trade up for is Barkov though. Tampa and Florida are probably more than happy with their mooseheads and wouldn't care for second tier players in return.. But one can hope..

I have no particular opinion on this offer, as I honestly can't tell how good McKinnon is (I mean I know he is good, but not really sure how special).
What I wonder about is - how is it that everybody knows what this organization is doing or even TRYING to do? Who the hell is leaking every move we try to make? Is it Feaster himself to make it look like he is a man of action? If not him, then who and why?

I'm also gonna go out on a limb and predict the Flames are in the running for 8th until March or so next season.
It's rational for most of you to think we'll be steaming dumpster bad. But what I saw from these kids in the home stretch, and what pissed most of us off, was a bunch of players who maybe weren't the most talented, but played like they never wanted to leave, and they had a world to prove. And we shut down top 8 teams that were desperate to hold their positions, not like we were killing teams that had nothing to play for. End of the year or not, that showed something. Whether this years' draftees make the lineup next season or not, I think this team will hold out in that playoff mix much longer than people will expect. Just a hunch..

You don't make that trade without knowing for sure the player you want is there. Worst case would be flames trading everything to get to 2nd and then Aves either picking Mackinnon or trading to a desperate team leaping ahead of the flames once all the assets have been spent.

A lot of the wins at the end had to do with teams taking us lightly and players getting their first taste of the NHL. Although, I do agree they might show a lot more heart than past teams next season, there is very little chance they can carry it on for more than 50-60 games.

That is a very good question.. It does seem like every one of our moves are being leaked.

Overpayment or not, Why would the Avs accept this deal today? Still have 15 more days until the draft... And the price for 1st overall will keep increasing.

Eh I have no confidence in the Flames scouting staff in picking at 22 and 28 anyway. Might as well try the Oilers strategy and pick the expected sure fire franchise player.

Comparing the top 3 picks to the 5th-7th picks, how many franchise players are in the 2nd list? Carey Price and Ryan Suter? You would have to hit a couple home runs in 22nd and 28th picks to make this deal seem even remotely lopsided in the Avs favour.
Without a doubt you do that trade to get a guy like MacKinnon.
|
The 'deepest, most talented draft in 10 years' asterisk beside this draft makes me think it's possible. I don't think there's six of those top 3 types, I think there could be as many as 5 this year though. Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov, Nichuskin (as much as the russian factor scares people).
And guys like Getzlaf / Perry were picked up in the 20s in that '03 draft, and together they are the franchise of the Ducks. So it gives me a little hope..

Kipper playing those two meaningless games stoning Detroit and Nashville was just stupid. Yay he got to win undying of the home crowd one last time. Note we're on the outside looking in of the elite prospects.

The Flames were a notoriously tight lipped franchise until Feaster took over. The Avs are also notoriously quiet...

It would be nice to get a potential superstar but championships are won with a good balanced roster, just look at Washington. Id keep those picks Feaster. With todays young NHL athletes its hardto pick up lemons in the first round.
