5 year old takes on WBC
Good for her, brings a smile to my face. Wish I could have bought some lemonade myself.

What happens when a little girl decides to set up a lemonade stand for peace outside the Westboro Baptist Church headquarters in Kansas? Members of the community step out in droves to show support, even as the hate group tries to quash it.

Jayden, who is from Kansas City, decided to set up her stand at the Equality House after her parents explained to her the significance of its construct. After being told that the church across the street had a message of hate, she set a goal of raising money to go towards a message of love and peace.

Good for her, but I wonder what would happen if people just started ignoring WBC and its message.
I would expect that the so-called churches life expectancy is only as long as the old man's life.
By counter protesting them all we're doing is giving them what they want. Much needed publicity.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. On the other hand, the optics could be bad for them if they are 'attacking' a 5 year old girl.
Oh well, they are fighting a losing battle anyway. I think 12 states have legalized same sex marriage now? They look dumber by the day, people will be ignoring them soon anyway.

This is exactly what I read, and was disappointed that some 5 year old wasn't in court battling the WCB in some bizarro case.

People tend to forget that in the day, Fred Phelps was considered to be a big figure in fighting the Jim Crow laws and received rewards from Black groups for his efforts in fighting civil rights cases.
His daughter is considered to be a pretty effective lawyer as well and thy don't hesitate in using the courts.
Half the time I wonder if Fred Phelps picked up syphilis somewhere and it drove him batty.

I assumed this was a story about a five year old taking on the Westboro Baptist church. I was all ready for a story about some five year old, selling lemonade in the name of peace to combat the Church's messages of hate, or something like that.

Whats this?
A five-year-old is more mature than the Westboro Baptist Church?
No surprises there.

Reminds me of that joke about the agnostic, dyslexic insomniac who was up all night wondering if there really is a dog.

" Fred Phelps was born in Mississippi in 1929. By all accounts his childhood was tragic: his father worked on the railroads during the Great Depression and his mother died of cancer when he was five, leaving his aunt to raise him. Despite this, Nate says he and his siblings were told that their father was a star pupil, a Golden Gloves boxer and an Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable, albeit one some people remembered as having an “antagonistic bent”. Fred met Margie Simms, Nate’s mother, in 1952 while they were both attending the Arizona Bible Institute. Twelve years later he graduated with a law degree from a university in Kansas and fought various civil rights suits in the Sixties. According to local reports, he gained a reputation as a sharp, competent attorney “whose eloquent and fiery orations mesmerised juries”. Two decades later, he received awards from the Greater Kansas City Chapter of Blacks in Government and a local branch of the human rights group the NAACP.
But Nate Phelps says the perception in some circles that his father was once this champion of civil rights, railing against discrimination, is laughable. “We would all call black people ‘DNs’ at home. It stood for Dumb N------ and was our private language,” he says. “We thought it was clever to call them that in front of them. He was deeply prejudiced, and he believed the Bible said they were cursed.” "
I'm not sure when he went Bat#### crazy, but here's a good article about his son, and growing up in the Phelps household. He's now living in Canada and is a gay rights activist.
