7 years eh? Nashville must be getting sick of being a defenseman factory for the rest of the league.

This could end up being a steal.

$4 million per year for a kid that IMO will end up being a top pairing d-man, and it takes him through the prime of his career.

Same age, similar stats as TJ Brodie. I don't think Brodie will be getting a 7 year contract though. Maybe a two year or three year deal at $2.5M per.

Hopefully he doesn't lose his motivation to improve now knowing that he has guaranteed $28 million in the bank....

where does this put Ryan McDonagh and Kevin Shattenkirk? I would think north of $4M

At first I thought who? But after looking at his TOI totals, wow that guy plays a lot. He's got to be near the top of the league in minutes played. I'd love for Brodie to become a rock on the backend like Josi is.

That's a huge deal. I would expect TJ Brodie to get a similar deal if the Flames are trying to get a long term deal done.

Not sure if this raises the bar for Brodie's contract. I thought before he would get close to 3-3.5 a year ona maybe a four year deal. But if the dollars and term are similar to Josi's I don't think I will complain. After watching how Doughty carried the puck out of the zone during the playoffs I see Brodie in a similar mold. The Offense isn't there like Doughtys but his puck carrying and passing skills are on par. Defensively they are similar as well.

Not sure why feaster waited to get conversation going with Brodie. Bumbling along letting others set the price while they spent time on low % things like in person presentations to Danny dekayser.

Just as likely it was Brodies agent that was waiting to see where the market was. As far as we know Feaster has already made an offer.

As good as Brodie was last season, he is not currently on the same level as Roman Josi.

I agree. Didn't Josi play on the top pairing with Webber the entire year?

He did and he definitely has a bit more polish in the defensive zone but I would say right now Josi and Brodie are very comparable players.

Brodie has had half a full season of being a full time NHL D. He's had 13 games as a 25 minute a night guy. Let's not give it all up on the first date

Depending on our off season moves, Brodie may never see 25 minute games all of next season. I like Brodie but he's not ready for that ice time.
