Good junior coach Absolutely but nothing more

I agree "Brent Sutter is not a hockey genius". I personaly do not like his style of coaching. That said he got every last drop out of those "dead beats", and got them close to a playoff spot. Hartely took the same "dead beats" plus adding Hudler and Wideman and made them one of the worst teams in the NHL. I have no doubt if it had been an 82 game season the flames would have finished bottom 2.

What is more interesting than any of this, most of which is speculation and bad feelings that don`t even matter, is what's going to happen to Iggy now? Where's he going to go?

I doubt the Penguins sign him. I don't think he or the team what him to come back here. Where does he go?

I could kinda see him going to St. Lou. Or Colorado. Maybe Philly?

Geez based on some of the comments in this thread, it seems like there were lots of posters in jays office on that fateful night.......

To me, coming back would really cheapen his legacy.........seems to me he was not much of a fit for the east, but what do I know.

I am going to guess he signs in Minnesota.

Maybe he joins Regs and Darryl in LA?

Though I think they'd have to shuffle some money around, they must be right up against it.

Course his contract is coming down, he might sign cheap if he gets the arrangement he wants. He's got his endorsement deals and he's supposedly been very good with his money. I doubt cash is in the top 3 reasons of him signing.

If I was Iginla, I probably would have not waived by no trade clause and tested free agency at the end of the year.

The hockey genius bar just got lowered quite a bit if Brent Sutter joined the list.

Why would he have done that? This year was his best chance to play with any of the top 4 teams on his list. I doubt that list would have changed this summer and i am not sure if any of the 4 can afford him going forward unless he plays for $3 million.

You guys just don't get it. He DID do what was best for the organization: moving on. We were going nowhere and it had to be done. Yes the Boston deal would have been better but Iginla getting traded anyway is the step that this franchise HAD to make. Regardless of the return.

It's amazing how the Boston deal is all of a sudden the defacto better deal then the Penguins one all of a sudden. The first round picks are a wash, they're effectively the same. Then if you'd rate the prospect you'd probably put that Russian kid from the Bruins at number one, then the two guys we got from Pittsburgh at 2 and three, then the blueliner from the Bruins at 4.

Hell everyone was up in arms about the Russian kid to start with.

I think Iginla would have gotten a better and longer deal from a team if he has stayed in Calgary and not gone to Pittsburgh only to end up on the third line with reduced time. Now, I think he will get a shorter deal and for less money.

I say sign him on a 1-year deal July 1st (nice birthday present, eh?) & then trade him to Boston for KoKo & a 1st next trade deadline. Repeat this annual ritual until he retires.

That's true but it probably would not have been with any of the top 4. If Iggy left Calgary as a ufa and wanted $5 million a season from the "big 4" there is no way they could have afforded it.

I still think there are a couple of teams that will give him $5 million. I also think there are a couple of teams, if he takes $3 million, that Iggy will be able to get 35+ goals with next year.

I think that's a rosie estimation to be polite.

Bartkowski was solid in the playoffs. If Ference had been more significantly injured, he'd still be in the lineup. He was in the lineup over Hamilton and if not for Krug's exceptional offense (which serves the purpose of giving Chara more rest), Bartkowski is likely in as well.

Bartkowski is further along in his development than the two prospects garnered from Pittsburgh, but he's also the better prospect at this point.

The picks are a wash. The prospect portion of the compensation favours the bruin deal, I would say significantly.

Either way, I don't care, I'm glad the team has begun the process of moving on, but, pretty silly to value a 22 year old guy playing for St. Cloud state more than a 25 year old guy playing in round 2 of the playoffs on a contender.
