ya seems most likely
Season 4 (Book 3, possibly some book 4/5 stuff included)
season 5 (Book 4/5)
Season 6 (Book 4/5)
Season 7/8 (Book 6 and 7)
gives him until 2016 probably (when Season 6 airs) to finish tWoW and 2017 for aDoS
I don't see the 2nd as being likely

Hard to imagine that they can turn books 4 and 5 into two seasons though. Very little happens, so unless they add a lot of filler, it would make for two slow, boring seasons.

I can't wait till next season when Oberyn is finally cast.. even though it will be short lived he was head and shoulders above everyone else as my favourite character in the book.

Interesting. I have a feeling Dany still being in Essos after season 6 is going to turn a lot of people off. You can (marginally) get away with it in the books perhaps but that seems like a long time to wait for TV audiences. Non-book readers I talk to are expecting Dany to travel to Westeros at this end of this season or certainly in season 4.

I think they can cheat a bit in the series, especially if book 6 is out by then.. have Dany move across a bit earlier than planned. I agree that even in the books it just seems to take forever, we meet the other Targaryen and see him land in what is it, one book?
I can see the show moving that story line along a bit faster, hopefully Martin can keep up.

I'm looking forward to the siege of the wall from the wildlings. Lots of giants and violence. I think there will be enough stuff from books 4 and 5 to make seasons 5 and 6 interesting. Tyrions escape, and the reveal of the other Targaryon, Victarion and Euron Greyjoy plus the kingsmoot. Stannis' siege on winterfell, Reeks discovery, unification of the wildlings and the crows. Lots of content, I don't think it will be boring at all.
Watching the downfall of Cersei in later seasons will be pretty interesting too.

They can always adjust Dany's story line. Add a little intrigue through the Sons of the Harpy, show Dany losing control over the city and her dragons, and the siege with the slaver's looming. They've built her up as a strong female, taking the three cities with little effort. Knock her down a few pegs showing that being a ruler isn't an easy task, even with dragons.

I agree, I don't think it will be boring at all. Add Aryas story line of becoming a bad a$$ assasin to that list as well. It might be a bit different pace, but I don't think it will be boring at all.

ya ideally it would be 1 or 1.5, but I see no other way Martin keeps up with writing
they can probably add some things in at that point, give a bit more backstory to a few characters and expand on some stories

Although I still think if they ever get to the point where they need a filler year for Martin to catch up
just make a prequel of Robert's Rebellion (which could also be a movie if they don't after this ends)

Hard to do that without knowing the truth about Rhaegar/Lyanna etc, though.

I think we'll start seeing a lot more stuff like Theons torture, stuff talked about in the books but never covered directly

If the show passes the books, I think they would almost certainly have the show end the way Martin intends to end the books, then have the filled in story get published... someday.

Re-reading is always good.
It wasn't until after ADWD came out that I noticed in one of Bran's earliest chapters (if not the first) in GOT that he is seriously freaked out by the weirwood tree in the godswood at Winterfell.
