Conservative MP quits
http://www.nationalpost.com/m/wp/new...ate=2013-06-06
Seems like the Cons are starting to unravel. MacKay even said he'd consider quitting if there is a change on how the party elects a leader.

Yep, I'd say the PM has burned pretty much all his goodwill off.

Actually I applaud why he quit the party. For a party that wanted to cut out government waste and be open and accountable they have done anything but. Add in all the recent senate scandals and citizens have a right to know where this money is going.
The fact that his proposed bill got butchered so much is proof that the Cons are unwilling to do what so many of them campaigned on.

I wonder what Rob Anders thinks of this. I mean he is the most constricted, muzzled mp in Canadian history, is he not?

I find this interesting, how is it relevant? Are people that are younger than him incapable?
Get off his lawn!

I've heard the PMO staff described as a bunch of uneducated twenty-something farm boys by someone familiar with them. I don't know how accurate that description is but given how much power they have if it is true I could see how an MP with his background could feel that way.

He supports Rathgeber.
Too bad I wasn't in before the requisite Rob Anders jokes.

The amazing thing to me is he gained his political capital with garbage policies (GST cut), then spent it on garbage policies (omnibus crime bill). If he had used his political capital on something better, like getting Northern Gateway through, I'd be more forgiving of the bad populism that gained him that capital.

The Economic Action Plan that they were forced into by threat of a non-confidence vote?

It's been posted for a whole hour and most PC lovers have jobs.
That aside, I think it is great that he is putting his constituents before the party. That is what they all should be doing. The party didn't elect them.

But they nominated him in St. Albert, which is as good as an appointment. So he owes them!

Anders got elected because of his party, not because constituents like him.

Anders yes, but Rathgerber?
I really do wish more MP's would do this no matter what party's banner they were elected under. I have always hated the idea of whipped votes and I very much respect his decision.

Looks like the beginning of the end for Harper and his CPC party.
