So they have permission to make an offer to MU. 3 million bucks a year apparently on a multi-year deal. Hope he signs on the dotted line and Denver lets him go early. Then he can get on with canning Casey, hiring a new coach and acquiring a pick for this year's draft. Just for starters as he remakes the roster from top to bottom.

Now confirmed that Ujiri has accepted the Raptors offer, in the range of $15 million over 5 years. Hopefully his magic touch continues in Toronto.

Another negative is that Colangelo by all accounts was best friends with him, so I'm not sure of how that will all work with Colangelo still having an influence on him even as a friend. I'm not thrilled about the hiring, but I am eager to get the rebuild on.

Ujiri starting his housekeeping, with Stefanski, Kelly, Pendergast, and at least two other scouts fired today. Also gherardini seems to be making other plans. Pretty much amounts to a complete rebuild of the scouting department. Curious to see who he brings in.

Love it so far. Bozo after bozo out the door. Next Casey. Then he can start working on trades.

TL and MU doing the rounds today on radio. TL took another few potshots at BC. MU saying his recent dismissals of staff will be followed by some evaluations of others including Casey. That he will eventually work with a small staff. He and Casey will have some talks and see if their philosophies match and then go from there. He also said youth will be served and that they have their eye on Canadian youth.
Mentioned specifically that the end of the roster would be filled with youth instead of scrubs(paraphrasing).
He and TL are so straight forward. Remind me of Darryl Sutter. No slick salesmen like BC. Just honest answers which is very refreshing.
Looking forward to their next moves.

Good first couple of moves but meaningless if the core of this team is still around going forward.
Get rid of Gay, Bargnani, DeRozan and Lowery and then I will be impressed and begin to believe that actual change is here.

Fair enough, though I think DeRozan doesn't need to go - he simply needs to be put in as the 4th option on a good team. He likely has pretty good trade value though.

I don't think he is going to do a firesale on these guys. His record so far is that he really looks at every possible deal, takes his time and then pulls the trigger. But really they are giving off nothing but signals that they don't like the roster. They are saying repeatedly that they are nowhere near a contending team. Some fans think they just need a couple of pieces and those fans are out to lunch. Glad to see they have two guys who get it.
He was sticking out the expectations yesterday pretty clearly. Preaching patience. So reading between the lines I'm hearing him say he can fix the backend of the roster immediately. Out with scrubs and in with youth with upside trying to find one who blossoms. The patience being required by fans as he makes moves to get assets and picks. With 2014 looking like the best draft in a decade he is going to have to pull off some amazing deals to get teams to give up picks.
Also said that they want to put a good product on the floor so I don't think they will just all out tank right away. I can see them trading Bargnani and DD in deal to begin with. That would allow them to throw Ross into the starting lineup and add some youth/picks.
Then at the deadline they can easily move Lowery and Gay. I think they keep Amir as a hard working guy like him is a good example for the youth.
But I think this guy is going to wait till the right deals appear and even when it's all said and done it will take years for them to turn it around.

If DeRozan is the 4th option and okay with playing that role then I am fine with keeping him. I just doubt he has the attitude to take responsible shots, not hog the ball and defer to better players and be able to play that role. It could be interesting to see if he was a ball hog who took terrible shots because he thought the team needed it with so few options, but I think that is just his mentality and based on other aspects of his game he just has a low basketball IQ.

IF he isn't scoring then he is worthless. He couldn't defend your Moma on a good day. Unless he can add a consistent 3pt shot to his arsenal then he is not even an option as a starter on a good team. At best a 6th man. Only role I see him holding going forward if they keep him.

I'd love DeRozan off the bench, except that $10 million is a lot to pay for a bench player. But just looking at style of play, he'd be perfect as a guy who can anchor a second unit offense. Gay and Ross starting, Fields and DeRozan off the bench would be a better wing rotation, although you'll go through major growing pains with Ross.

^^Id like to see Karl in Toronto but he wont for this reason:
Karl's 21 straight non-losing seasons tie Phil Jackson for the longest streak in league history.

If Casey is fired, Karl isn't coming to Toronto.
Whether the Toronto coaching job opens this summer -- or next -- rule out George Karl as a candidate for Masai Ujiri, league sources tell Y!

Raps going with Casey for next year. Not sure what to make of what is on the face of it an unbelievably stupid move. Clown couldn't even get an inbounds play right not to mention screwing with Val's and Ross's development. Playing a joke like AA big minutes.
Guy is a dufus so wonder what's up. Good coach for the tank I assume.

Yeah, I think this is about Ujiri wanting to take his time and if the team sucks next year, he can call it a rebuilding year, hang it on Casey, get a good draft pick, and move on with a new coach. I don't think Casey's a good coach, probably a solid defensive coach and that's about it, but it will be interesting to see how minute management changes. If young players get a lot of minutes and veterans are stuck with end-of-bench minutes, then that's an indication that a lot of the minute-management that we saw last year was coming from Colangelo. I don't think the assistant coaching staff has been renewed yet, so we'll see if they bring in a guy who can draw up on offense.
I do like the sound of of the management team that Ujiri has brought in so far... all sound like smart, energetic, hard-working and well-respected guys.

Hard to judge Casey based on the garbage roster he has had to deal with. Hard to say he held Ross and Valanciunas back when they didn't do a ton to show they deserved much (Ross especially) and he had to force feed Colangelo's boys DD, Fields and Gay big minutes.
I think he is likely an average coach at best and a good guy to have around to fire/blame when things go awful this year.
If Ujiri knows he is going to have trouble moving the garbage on the roster might as well keep Casey around to bite the bullet then have his guy saddled with the losses you will get with these guys.
