The only thing that would maybe make me swing to the Pens is if them winning somehow negatively affect Glen Healy. Ie, if he bets his house on the Kings.

No thanks.

I'd rather the Flames young players learn from someone with leadership abilities.

Regehr wouldn't be the first guy to play well at the end of a contract. He got a chance to shine going to LA. I hope for him he keeps it up, but I wouldn't be too surprised if he didn't.

Poor timing to sign a new contract I think. Sutter did that often in Calgary. Signing players to a big contract and have them fall on their face.

Regehr never tried to hit the bank with the Flames (signed home town discounts) and his play never tanked the season after he signed a new long term deal. What an odd post.

Lots of underachievers on the Sabres over the past 2 seasons. Of those singled out for poor play, his name tended not to come up in the conversation.

Nobody should be the least bit surprised that Sutter's getting the most out of him. It was just CP sour grapes to accuse him of being washed up.

Those picks for what they thought he could do in the post season. The extension is for what he is doing in the post season.

He's an old pro and knows how to elevate his play when it matters most. It's not exactly the same thing, but everybody here can remember Martin Gelinas. They guy was a 3rd liner during the regular season and maybe got 15 goals. Come '04 playoff time, he's suddenly found himself on the top line and potted about 10 goals. OK, may be off a little on the goal tallies (too lazy to verify) but not off by much.

If they go deeper, it might've cost even more to retain him. Meantime, he likes playing for Sutter, is on a great contending team and hanging out in So Cal probably isn't half bad at this stage of his career.

Regehr gives Doughty freedom to jump in to the play offensively, there's value right there. He's a decent replacement for Mitchell and provides the physical force on the second pairing in similar fashion to Matt Greene. Lombardi didn't trade for Regehr to let him go, rentals aren't his style. It's a good deal for all involved.

He kicked my dog! Well...no he didn't but he seems like he would if he was given the chance!! Ok, maybe not... Actually it stems from people who worked in the organization saying he was a real grump, the fact that he could not make an outlet pass to save his life, and then he would get PP (good lord) and he has a rocket of a shot but could not hit the broad side of a barn. It might also have to do with his feud with Dion who was my favorite Flame at the time (what the hell was I on?).
You know how sometimes you see a guy and for no reason you just get the impression the guy is a huge a-hole? That is Regehr for me.

Scudderi is a UFA, I think Lombardi will try to sign him. He's a real solid presence in the locker room.

He would be great, I could say perfect, for a rebuilding Flames team. He is EXACTLY the kind of veteran leader you need during a rebuild. He is smart, he's very steady emotionally and is really, really good with rookies. When he's done playing he would make an excellent coach. That said, I'm not sure he's at a point in his career where he'd be looking to go to a rebuilding team. If it was two years from now, maybe. The Flames do need to find that guy. The Kings had Rob Blake and then Sean O'Donnell, guys who lead by example and share their knowledge. The Flames are missing that piece at this point. They need to find a strong veteran leader.

Good for Reggie. I never thought he'd be making that kind of cheddar in the NHL at this point. Maybe still a bit overpaid, but he's playing well.

Not a great trade by Feaster and co.
