#22. Madison Bowey -- That's what the Flames have been missing lately, a defenseman with a girly sounding name.

Both teams win big time if that's the case. I keep going back and forth on who I like more but I think both players will be guys who you look back on and wonder how they went that "late".

Yeah I agree and think both guys are solid players as well. I think Monahan would fit in perfect for the Oilers in the 2nd line center spot. He is a great faceoff guy and can play in all areas. Lindholm has more natural skill IMO and would be a great fit for Calgary.

Monahan isn't an undersized, one dimensional forward or an Oil King.
Doubt the Oilers take him.

If it does happen the way OilFan says, I wonder if Monahan vs Lindholm will be the new Stoll vs Lombardi comparison.
Would the Oilers not take Nurse?
Is there not a need for defenseman up there?

Klefbom (1st rounder from 2 years ago) should be in the lineup this season or 2014-2015 latest. Nurse is 2-3 years away from being NHL ready.

They are trying to re-sign him. If they take a dman at #7 then he stays for sure. If they take someone like Monahan, I think Monahan starts in the 3rd line center spot. If he does well, Gagner could be moved for a defenseman.

Are any of the picks outside of the top 3 even NHL ready? I think Monahan should be back in junior if the Oilers draft him.

I think top 5 are NHL ready. Hard to say after that, it all depends on their camp I suppose. My point was that from what I have read, etc that after Jones, Nurse is said to be 3 years away and the same can be said for the other defenseman.

I would only put the top 3 into the NHL. All the rest should go back to junior or their respective mens leagues imo. Even Jones I'd probably only give the 9 games, even though there's not much he can gain from the WHL.

From all accounts, Nichushkin is NHL ready. I think the top 5 will be in the NHL and then after that it depends on the team.

He was 17 when he got drafted and built like napolean dynamite. Last year he was 17/18 during his first NCAA season, a full year younger than most freshmen and 5 years younger than the seniors he was playing against. He will be 21 after four years of school in 2016 and is unlikely to turn pro before 2015 at the absolute earliest so he's going to take a long time.
Next season when he turns 19 would be his freshman year for most guys physically and I think he'll take a step forward but I think it will be 2014/15 when he really starts to excel.
|
Another thing to consider with Jankowski is that we have 4 years to see how he develops. If he busts, we don't sign him and get a 2nd rounder as compensation. This mitigates the risk in taking him.

I would argue Ristolainen is ready and kind of surprised he is ranked lower than Nurse. Not by much but he has had some decent success in Finland.

Doubt Mackinnon value but a couple of players have me wondering how good they'll be.
Morgan Klimchuk - Extremely fast skater with great instints, like Mackinnon he works hard every shift in every zone.
Bo Horvat - Kid seems to be the full package, at worst a good 2nd-3rd line center.
Frederik Gauthier - late bloomer but is very talented, nice skater and very big, a friend told me he like Joe Thornton the way he controls and passes the puck.

Why? I like Monahan a lot but Bakrov is the much better prospect.

Lindholm/Monahan
Morrissey
Klimchuk or perhaps Zykov.
Petan is another guy I like but we aready have small skilled forwards. ehh. Don't really know who else would be around the Penguins pick. Hartman, Rychel, Gauthier, Compher, Hagg. Agh, Lots of good prospects here who could be around that pick.
Would like to see such a draft in the first round.
