Bringing in a high profile centerman who has won a cup and has tasted success is not a bad thing and is a great thing to have rub off on your younger players coming up. Also, he would of led our team in scoring.

This isn't about needing to tank for better draft picks who may or may not work out. I like to see my team win and slowly build the smart way while still competing.
People around these parts have been screaming for a rebuild and now that it is here we think we can turn it around in a year or two? it makes no sense to bring in a veteran to take time away from a young guy that needs to play to develop. You need to build towards something and Richards doesn't help that, he is filler.

I agree a veteran presences is important but Richards is not it. A solid second or third line guy that has great work ethic and knows what it means to sacrifice for the team. Character is more important now than a average, ageing skilled centre that might help your team win 5 or 6 more games.

Maybe Richards gets bought out next year. Friedman brought up a good point on HotStove when he said the Rangers already used one buy out already. they may want to wait a year to see what happens.

Who else would they buy out? Plus with cap recapture him retiring in 4-5 years they continue getting charged his cap hit with a lesser value if course.

Depends in who we draft. If we take Sean monohan then I don't think so, but we do need NHL centers.

Were not supposed to be bringing in old guys, were supposed to be shipping them out.

possible, thanks to Gaborik deal. This trade has given them a bit of cap space (Brassard, Dorsett and Moore make a combined 5.6, Gaborik alone 7.5) and this has now given them the opportunity to hold on to Richards for another year and hope for the best. Stepan, Hagelin and McDonagh need raises though.

Hope not, always have thought Richards is overrated same as Rick Nash. We need some young guys with speed.

Just say no to Richards. Didn't like him in Tampa, didn't like him in Dallas, and relieved we dodged the bullet of signing him to a massive contract that would have handcuffed this franchise for years. Stay away.

After reading this: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu...152721636.html

I think he's going to get bought out this year or next year 100%. A 5.6 million cap penalty for a guy that's not contributing as of late is probably something even the rangers couldn't afford.

Off topic, hossa is a post-apex player I wouldn't mind on the flames.

How did we ever manage to talk hockey without using that awesome, amazing, totally necessary and by no means annoying term???
