First order of business: The last time we established contact with the people who are in possession of the video was this past Sunday, and we have not been able to reach them since.
As we mentioned when we launched the campaign, folks who are involved in the crack trade tend not to be the most reliable people in the world. This has proven to be the case when it comes to the owner of the video of Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine. We were initially made aware of the video by a tipster, who connected us with the owner of the video after we traveled to Toronto. We've been in relatively constant communication with the tipster since then. But he has told us that hasn't been able to make contact with the owner of the video in recent days.

I doubt there is any video that even exists. It would have been purchased and released by now. This raising 200k angle sounds just as ridiculous as Ford smoking Crack he is a buffoon but if he was smoking crack it wouldn't just end with 1 hit. From little that i know about crack you don't just try it and thats it. Massivly addictive the body and mind becomes quickly dependent on the craving for it again.

And here is a transcript of a live chat with one of the journalists from the Star, Kevin Donovan. He discusses a few of the issues brought up in this thread, like why the Star didn't purchase the video, why they released their story when they did, etc.

Maybe it took this long for Ford to negotiate a price for the video. Would tie in the fact that the videos owner has gone silent and Ford is now making a statement denying it. He can now be confident the video won't be released, well unless they made copies, and they are drug dealers after all. Would be Fords only chance, if in fact they do have video.

Yeah, I've been saying that the whole time. $200k is chump change for the Ford family. Rob Ford could have been just keeping his mouth shut long enough to secure the video. We're talking about a guy whose daddy once paid the Washington Redskins so he could attend camp.
Also, it didn't take long for the Taiwanese animation:

If he's dealing with Drug dealers or the like then the moment that he opens that pandora's box and pays them for the video, they will keep hitting him up over and over again.
Since we're dealing in hypothetical theory which is what your post is.
His best move would be to pay someone a fraction of the 6 figures to gut the video owners like a fish and bury them in the woods as soon as he knew who they were.
I could throw out another story just for fun. Maybe Gawker did have a tipster and maybe they had a viewing, but does it stand up to hard forensic proof? Maybe the Star just piggy backed on this story to boost their flagging circulation and the video maybe showed Ford there, but not partaking?
Maybe he was main lining heroine while strangling a little girl and the video was too horrible to put out to the public, especially when ford shed his skin and revealed his true form
We might never know now.

there is a reason why addicts call crack the devil in a pipe. Ford isn't doing crack or he wouldn't be able to function normally. If he did smoke crack and it didn't effect him with a craving for more in a couple hours, He must be a 1 in a billion kind of guy.

I know people who in the past have gone on binges that included crack smoking and they didn't automatically become fiends or non-functional.

Instead of constantly trying to paint Ford as the villian, maybe the Star and Gawker should be getting some critism for what looks like jumping the gun journalism.
Everyone goes he should make a statement.
Ford says its ridiculous
People go, then he should clearly deny that he's using crap
Ford says I don't do crack
People say, well clearly he bought the video
The question is, when does it stop.
If that video doesn't show up then the Star jumped the gum and probably put the guy and his family through hell.
As did Gawker.
Right now the credibility question lies with those two organizations and not with Ford.
He's a bizarre personality and a strange man and I don't think he's a great mayor to be honest, but how long will the strings of accusations continue.

The statistics don't support a lot of people that are casual or binge crack users.
While the one hit and your hooked is a bit of an urban legend, Crack is still one of the most addictive drugs on the market, especially because of the psychological need to avoid the crash after the brief high, and the bodies physical craving for it after exposure.

Ford's problem is that he's denied too many things that have turned out to be true. His denials carry no weight anymore, and that's something that's self-inflicted.

I don't disagree with that.
