If the SEL likes a general lack of rebound control from their goalies, he's gonna be a star

Some not so good quotes from Taylor about moving on:
http://www.abbynews.com/sports/heat/news/208554661.html
Quote:
Disappointing, frustrating and bittersweet.
Danny Taylor alternated those adjectives on Wednesday as he reflected on his exit from the Calgary Flames/Abbotsford Heat organization.
Anyone who watched Taylor play for the Heat over the past two seasons might add "surprising" to the adjective pile.
|
Quote:
"I wanted to be back with Calgary, but there was no opportunity there, to be honest," Taylor told The News.
"When we talked about a deal with them, they said they couldn't do anything right now. It's kind of disappointing after the year I had."
Depending on which stats you choose to ponder, the Flames' decision to cut ties with Taylor is either baffling or coherent.
|
Quote:
"It's so frustrating," Taylor said. "It's like, what else do I have to do to be back in the organization?
"You can't force an opportunity with words, you can only do it with play, and I thought I did that. They just decided to go a different direction."
Taylor's frustration aside, he expressed deep gratitude to the Heat coaching staff led by Troy Ward, and to the Flames for the NHL opportunity this year.
Ultimately, 2012-13 is a season Taylor will look back at fondly. In addition to his on-ice milestones, he and wife Danielle welcomed their first child, son Hudson, into the world on New Year's Day.
"It was incredible, really awesome," Taylor said. "I feel it's really starting to change my life now that hockey's been over, since I've been able to spend more time with Hudson. Since he's gotten older, you can really interact with him."
|
Quote:
"Guys go right from that league into the NHL and KHL, and they obviously have a history of doing that," he noted.
"I've had three or four seasons where I'm waiting around (for a contract) and it's August, and I'm pulling my nails out of my fingers wondering where I'm going to go. This (Färjestad offer) was on the table, a two-year deal, and it's twice as much money as I've ever made in a hockey season. So I wasn't going to wait around."

Can't blame the guy he had a really solid season with the Heat. Probably the Best move for his family to make a decent living.
Flames have to make room for all their new goalies on the way.

Stacked? We are probably top 5 in the thin department. Career backup and 2 unknowns.

stacked in terms of quantity. MacDonald, Berra, Ortio and Brossoit are already under contract, plus Ramo is expected to sign. That's five bodies, and officially we still have Kiprusoff under contract as well... with that in mind, there was just no way they'd give another NHL contract to Taylor.

Yeah, "stacked" was a poor word choice...but it's a numbers game, and the Flames already have too many pro goalies for next season, even if Kipper moves on via retirement or trade.
1. MacDonald
2. Ramo
3. Berra
4. Ortio
5. Brossoit
Five guys, with only four spots to be had.

Don't worry. In a few years he will become the best goalie not in the NHL, which means there is a 100% chance the Flames will either sign him and/or trade for him once Ramo and Berra go bust.

Good move for the SEL, Taylor should make some games have a little higher score.

Twice as much as he made in NA? So I'm guessing he makes about $150k there?what was his AHL salary? ~$75k?

$80,000 according to CapGeek
Also, it would appear he made a little over $140,000 in NHL money this year with his call up.

Howse has one more year left and I'm sure Nemisz is done with this organization.

What the hell has happened to Howse anyways? Everyone was really high on the guy a couple of years ago and lately I've heard nothing about the guy.

I guess Taylor wasn't confident in another NHL team giving him a contract. He had great stats in the AHL, but he didn't look great in the NHL. Maybe Ward's system made him look better than he was.
