I used to wear Doc Marten boots with my culottes on my mail route.. Years ago I also wore a nose ring or stud.
Anyway, my route then was in a wealthy Jewish subdivision. With my blond hair and blue eyes and boots I must have brought up bad memories .

As ridiculous as it may sound, a group of residents grilled me about my ancestry. My family is from Belgium and Holland, primarily Rotterdam. My great grandfather hid Jews under the big pipe organ in his church.

Long story short-nothing I said would satisfy this group. It was horrific to see the numbers tattooed on their arms and feel their rage.

So why did they do this? In the next town there was a large, increasingly violent group of young Neo Nazis who sported blond hair, nose rings, and Docs. They wouldn't believe I wasn't one of them. So I quit the route as it was too much.

I know it sounds melodramatic and unlikely but it really did happen.

This is South Florida after all.

I know a guy who has a small role in that movie Pain and Gain which is based on events that happened in Miami.
I think I'll side with the real-life victim and not pay to see it, as it is kinda sick to make a comedy of the situation.

Most of the people I am friendly with hate this county. It's a powder keg of rednecks (many of whom are not from Florida), Haitians, Hispanics, African Americans and Northeasterners who just don't like each other. Native Floridians are among my favorite people. On the whole, I don't think I've ever seen such a group of miserable people in my life. There have been several books written about this place so there's no point in me going on about it.

It is probably more corrupt than Dade County (Miami). That place was rebuilt by drug lords really.

North Carolina is out. Lots of people say West Coast of US or Colorado. I'm not 100% sure I can handle the cold on a daily basis, but I loooove Alaska.

I have sooo many books about the history of Florida. Greed, exploitation and corruption just because it doesn't snow. I'm surprised they didn't take out all the Glades a long time ago.

To continue this rant, I'll add that I want out of the suburbs. They are an overrated useless pile of crap.

I don't feel like starting another thread but this has to do with mass shootings, or more importantly Sandy Hook Elementary. Eli Saslow is incredibley talented and he knocked it out the park with his piece that is most likely the painful thing you will ever read and the one you simply must.http://www.washingtonpost.com/nation...wpmk=MK0000205

		| At least 72 people were shot in Chicago in a wave of violence over the holiday weekend. Twelve people were killed, and more than 60 were injured. Among the critically wounded were two little boys — a 5-year-old and a 7-year-old — who were celebrating with family in separate incidents in city parks on the Fourth of July. | |

			A bizarre one here....and a freaking grenade?

		| A former member of the Dallas Mavericks male dance team killed four people and wounded at least four more with guns and a grenade Wednesday night, police said, according to multiple media reports.
Erbie Bowser, a 44-year-old who was known as E-Luv with the Mavs ManiAACs as recently as 2011, shot and killed Toya Smith, 43, and her 17-year-old daughter Tasmia Allen and injured two more in a Dallas home around 10:30 p.m. CT Wednesday night, police said.

Smith is believed to have been Bowser's former girlfriend, according to multiple media reports.

According to police, Bowser then drove to the home of his ex-wife Zina Till in the Dallas suburb of DeSoto. He threw a grenade into the house, and after it detonated, he entered the home and began shooting, police said. Two women were killed and two boys, ages 11 and 13, were wounded, police told multiple media outlets. Bowser then ran out of ammunition.
