What would be a realistic trade involving any one of the blues or pens picks? Not a vet type trade but some like the blues first for zack kassian for example?

Hypothetical...Islanders (Or some other team) have fallen in love with a player later in the first round and want to grab one of our later round picks. Would you be happy with a Brock Nelson (Or another good prospects that fills a hole in the organization) for one of the Flames later first round picks?

It's not a mock draft - it's just the list he'd go into the draft with if he was drafting. If you read it, you'll see he ranks Jones third only because of the reliability of elite level forward prospects panning out more than elite defense prospects.

Yeah, based on what he wrote about Barkov it seems like he thinks Lindholm is right there with him. It's just one guy's opinion, but it's nice to be able to read a detailed description of why he thinks guys fit where they do.

Yeah, I read it. It's a very good article. It definitely seems that Lindholm will be number 6 if he takes this further. I'd be interested to see his takes on Monahan.

I would. Brock is the Next Big Thing. Definitely a Jay Feaster guy.

I was wondering if a team like the jets would do
Stl & Pit Picks <---> 13th and 43rd. Or Columbus for 14th/44th
I think best case senario in this draft would be, Barkov somehow slides to us, Then we make that trade and get, Gauthier, and Morin.
At a glance Lindholm might be my second option, because he is a right shot. But I haven't seen him play so I cant say him over Monahan or the Russian for sure.
I feel like Gauthier is an Andrew Ladd type player, and thats hard to beat with your second pick of any draft.
And Morin seems to be a risk, but if you win he is Chara, if you loss there is still the first two guys from this draft, and you can always trade a 6'7'' physical dman.

Looks kind of chubby. I'd stay away if I were Nashville or Carolina.

Posted this in another thread. Thought it should be here instead.
Might've already been mentioned, but with the way the Flames are looking right now, next year's 1st rounder is going to be very valuable.
So here's my proposal:
To CGY:
- Tampa Bay's 3rd overall pick
To TB:
- Calgary's 2014 1st round pick
- Either the Blues or Penguins pick
Why Tampa may consider this trade:
Tampa is fairly deep in prospects. They have Nemestikov, Tanner Richard, Connelly, JT Brown, Sustr, Barberio, Koekkoek, Vasilevski. Pretty decent pool of prospects right there. Certainly healthier than the Flames' current cupboard. They're not starving for prospects.
While taking Calgary's 2014 pick is a bit of a risk because in today's NHL, teams can go from crap to bubble playoff teams (Columbus), I think it could be a very enticing risk to take for Yzerman as it could turn out to be a top 3. Plus, he picks up an extra first rounder in the 18-23 range.
The reason this trade works for Calgary are obvious. The Flames draft a franchise player in the top 3 this year and retain their #6 pick who could also turn out to be a star. As well, the Flames retain either their Pens or Blues pick.
Looking through recent history at what it takes to move up (link here and here) we can assume that to move into the top 3 it will take a top 10 pick (i.e, Flames 2014 pick) and a high second rounder and/or more (I was generous and said either the Pens or Blues pick).
This is a good, fair deal IMO. If it takes our third rounder to get it done, then so it does. It's more than worth it for a Seth Jones, Nathan MacKinnon, or Jonathan Drouin.

Heh. I can't see the Lightning give up a guaranteed #3 pick in this draft for hopes of drafting in the same area (top 1-3) in next years draft when their only compensation for that risk is a late first round pick this year.
Stranger things have happened though I guess.
I'll tell ya what though, if Feaster manages to do something like that, and grab a top 3 pick in this years draft without giving up our 6th pick, I vote that anybody who slags Feaster on this site in the next calendar year gets instantly sin binned for a year minimum. That would be unbelievable...snagging one of MacKinnon or Drouin plus adding Monahan/Nurse/Lindholm/Barkov at #6 as well?
That'd be amazing.

6. Elias Lindholm, Center, Brynas (SEL)
Lindholm, like Barkov, is a uniquely advanced player for his age. He had a special season for an 18-year-old in the Swedish Elite League, often recording over 20 minutes per game as a premier scoring option for Brynas. He has high-end offensive skills, displaying plus skating ability. He regularly shows his speed in transition, and he can pressure defensemen quickly on the forecheck. Lindholm has great hand-eye coordination and he can really dangle with the puck. His ability to make plays in tight spaces is very impressive. Lindholm's two-way hockey sense is also high end, as he is a great offensive playmaker. He sees the ice at a high level, and he knows where to position himself in the offensive end. In his own zone, he makes good reads, and he commits to staying with his assignments. As with most young players, he needs to continue to get stronger. That said, he is fairly firm on the puck, and he can muscle players off of it defensively as well. He is a tad undersized, and that is his one notable weakness.
Ranking explanation: There is a notable tier separation between the sixth spot and the seventh spot, making this ranking a simple decision. The top six all project as NHL All Stars or better. I cannot make that claim in regards to anyone beyond this spot. Sean Monahan, ranked seventh, has some dynamic qualities, but he is not elite enough in one particular area to project as a star. He could be an average top-line center. That still makes him valuable, but his lack of multiple top-end skills holds him back from belonging in the same tier as Lindholm and above.

Check out the links I added in my post.
According the author's methodology, he would argue that the Flames are actually overpaying in my proposal (according to recent history of what it takes to move up).
I think it's close to fair, but obviously it would take some tinkering, but it's close IMO.

I have read another scout say the same thing about Monahan in that he doesn't wow you in any area and the sum is better than the parts. That scares me a bit as his ceiling isn't high.

Would you guys take Drouin or Barkov if we somehow picked 3rd?
I think I go with Drouin. Yeah, he's not the position we need, or the size, but he's probably the best player in the draft, ignoring where he plays.

Druin and then maybe try to position yourself via trade to get a guy like Lazar.

I agree that history shows it doesn't usually take as much to move up as most here seem to believe, history also shows though that moving up into a top pick isn't something that happens on a frequent basis...probably not because of the cost being to high, but more so because GM's usually don't want to give up a top pick. They probably just want to snag a top prospect and move on from what was a horrible season for their organization.
