Teams earn their reputation. The Flames under the Sutter years took a lot of penalties as they played a hard, physical game and Darryl loved his goons. Flames were amongst the least penalized tems in the league this season because they are a small, soft team under Feaster. It evens out as teams develope and earn their reputations and officials are human but I wouldn't call officiating bias a league conspiracy. It's generally Canucks and Habs fans that always think the league is out to get them.

Coaching the second greatest goalie ever for most of his career probably has something to do with this....the GAA since he left Roy has been nothing special, including having the second worst team GAA this year.

I'm not saying Hartley is a terrible coach but that AV has a better track record.
Bob Hartley

Stanley Cups: 1 (2001) 1 Appearance
Conference Finalist: 4 (1999-2002)
Presidents' Trophies: 1 (2001)
Division Titles: 5 (1999-2002, 2007)
Jack Adams: 5th in Voting, 2001

NHL Head Coaching Record: 329 Wins in 650 Games, 0.506 W%

Non-NHL Career:

QMJHL President's Cup (1993) Laval Titan
Calder Cup (1997) Hershey Bears
Swiss Championship (2012) ZSC Lions

Alain Vigneault

Stanley Cups: 0 (2011) 1 Appearance
Conference Finalist: 1 (2011)
Presidents' Trophies: 2 (2010-2011)
Division Titles: 6 (2007, 2009-2013)
Jack Adams: 1 (2007)

NHL Head Coaching Record: 417 Wins in 786 Games, 0.531 W%

Non-NHL Career:

QMJHL President's Cup (1988) Hull Olympiques

I fail to see how their track records are all that different.

Actually, for Vancouver sports media I thought they owned it pretty good. I was listening to Rintoul and Chapman on my drive to work and their view was all the diving, embelleshment whining to the refs during the game and complaining about them after games are over has come home to roost. Their antics the last 3+ years is now costing them in non-calls, or 50/50 calls that are more often not going Vancouver's way.

Edit to say the fans calling in are the usual idiots.

Where are you finding your numbers?

www.hockey-reference.com

Bob Hartley: 348 Wins in 698 games coached: .498 win %

Alain Vigneault: 422 wins in 806 games coached: .523 win %

Not much of a different result, AV still has a higher winning percentage and has coached more games. Seems like a better track record to me.

Vancouver whined about powerplays against St. Louis.
Vancouver whined about powerplays against Nashville.
Vancouver whined about powerplays against Boston.
Vancouver whined about powerplays against Los Angeles.
Vancouver whined about powerplays against San Jose.

I'm more inclined to believe that Vancouver just bitches and moans about powerplays in general. Its what they do and it should be expected.

All I can say is that I'm thrilled to see Van get swept in the first. Now, I can just sit back and watch the team crumble after this. After getting mocked by so many Nucks fans for the last few years, this is so sweet- so sweet.

No but we're all over the TV network conspiracy against the Flames lol.

Bob Hartley's got AV beat there. In 84 games he has 49 wins. Mind you he hasn't won a playoff game since 2002.

AV has 74 games winning 37 of them. AV certainly didn't have the luxury of four hall of famers on his team, Bourque, Sakic, Forsberg, and Roy and a Norris Trophy winner in Rob Blake to win a cup though.

Stats may be the same, but different eras, about 10 years apart, and a lot has changed in the game since that time; the style of the game on the ice and the salary cap.

Hartley had the luxury to coach with a stacked, non-cap, Colorado team. That was also a long time ago when the game was different. He hasn't won a playoff game, let alone series, since 2002.

Vigneault's made the playoffs 6 of the last 7 years and won 6 rounds in that time.

Means nothing and especially in the NW Division the last few seasons.

Otherwise I agree...AV is a good coach.

Vancouver should look at that roughing call on Desjardins that gave them the PP that gave them the goal to tie it up in the third. That was so weak as far as roughing goes, and if the refs were agasint them they wouldn't have called that.

If you're thinking Luongo, Henrik and Daniel Sedin, then I would certainly debate that. But I don't want to derail this thread even more.

And speaking of embelishment... yeah, pretty bad there Mr. Hamhuis. Wonder what your d partner had to say about that.
