I wonder if NBC will cut off overtime, and switch to the Kentucky Derby if the game heads to OT.

Stralman is a guy that has really surprised me on the Rangers. In my opinion he is one of the top 2 or 3 defence men on the ice today

He deliberately did swing, although it wasn't his intention to put it over the glass.
Sorry Kerry, that's a penalty...and it has been called that way in the past...many times.
EDIT: Although I prefer it actually called by intention, that can be (and has been) pretty wishy-washy.

Agree with your edit. Yes it has been called that way in the past, I would argue however that based on the wording in the rulebook they should be calling it with intent in mind, in which case that was the correct call.
Guess it's just easier for the officials to usually take a judgment call out of the equation and just call it as a black and white call.

How pissed will Rangers fans be if the Capitals score on this delay of game penalty after Alsner not called for his?

Of course it happens.
Well that sucks. Hopefully the Rangers can turn it around back at MSG.

Oleksy got called for one right away in OT so it's not like the Alzner missed call was their only chance.

Okay.
Missed the first part of OT.
Interesting to see 3 of those (potential) calls in one game. Still think they should treat it as an icing rather than a penalty.

3 of those calls within 10 minutes. I agree it should be the same as icing, it's too much of a game changer right now.

Love it! Much deserved win, they dominated most of the game. Lundqvist was amazing. Go CAPS!

I'd almost wish they'd give a one minute penalty to those calls, but I doubt that would be an option. It does seem that the delay of game call often plays a critical role in the result of so many playoff games.
Either way, great result. Hopefully the Capitals keep it up. A third round Pens/Caps series would be huge for the league.

Never had a problem with the delay of game penalty. It is such an avoidable penalty and the onus really should be on the players to not take that penalty.
No one has an issue with it usually until it comes to playoff time and more so when a playoff game goes to OT.
The trapezoid penalty is by far the dumbest one to me. never understood why they put that one in in the first place.
Anywho, good for the Caps. Glad they won. Might make for a great PITT vs. WSH series and re-ignite the Ovie vs. Crosby rivalry the media so loves.
