Maybe they'll promote Kate McKenna.

wouldn't it be different at TSN and ESPN/FOX1 compared to local networks?

There was a story in SI a few years ago that Stuart Scott gets paid 2m a year, Scott Van Pelt gets 1.5

both are sportscenter hosts

a relative unknown in Charissa Thompson who Fox also just hired is rumored to have gotten 600-800k

Because there's little competition in Canada in terms of sports broadcasting, the compensation just isn't there.

Once you get established in the US, you're golden, especially if you're on a national broadcast. Erin Andrews makes well over a million dollars. It definitely won't be long before Onrait and O'Toole are making six digits. It likely took a lot to pry them from Canada because they seemed really happy in their roles so, who knows. I'd love to be on a fly on the wall during those negotiations!

Sad to see Onrait and OToole go. Hope this means more Bierness as the replacement

So two guys who occupy the top morning slot and the number one sports station make less than the average employee in the oil and gas industry.

Personally, I'd be stunned if they are currently making less than $200,000 at TSN.

I have to say though.. radio wasn't his thing. At least not when I had tuned in past the 3 day mark. I found that he started to become a little irritating. Just my opinion though.

It'll be very interesting to see who takes over.

Mango has worked in the industry, as have I - and I can tell you that the salaries are shockingly low. If you aren't one of the top dogs you frankly can't even make a living. Most broadcasters make ends meet but having multiple jobs, or side projects on the go.

That's why I think radio would be the worst job around. Low pay and just constantly forced to pimp your sponsors.

The lethal combination is low pay+horrible hours.
The work itself is a lot of fun - at times doesn't feel like work at all.
But it can have a huge negative impact on all your relationships, including your family.
At some point many, including me, reach the point where it just isn't worth it.
Which is too bad.
For that reason those that actually make it - deserve that much more respect.

It is a brutal business.

I wonder what exactly will they be doing on Fox? Hosts as they are now, at a regional level, since Fox doesn't really have a Sportscentre national equivalent? To go as a package as they are, must be something like that to gain share in a big market that they're behind ESPN, by being different then the competition.

Fox is launching a new channel called Fox Sports 1 in mid-August (it will replace Speed TV). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Sports_1

They seem to be targeting ESPN with this move and will have a new sports news show called "Fox Sports Live". I don't know if they've made it official yet, but the assumption is that Onrait and O'Toole will be the hosts of Fox Sports Live.
