I know nothing about either player, but if the reports are true I say Monahan.
The reports seem to be fitting criteria of a center that the Flames need:
1) Large frame-Check
2) Offensive talent-Check
3) High hockey IQ-Check
4) Can shut down other team's best players-Check
The only thing I don't know is if he has good speed, good hands, and a good shot as these seem to be the things that would determine whether he is a 1st line center or more of a 2nd/3rd line center. As well, I want to know what his work ethic is like. Is he a Baertschi type of player or is he more of a Tanguay.
Lindholm would be more of a bonafide top line guy, but may not have the defense or intelligence to be a dominant NHL player. But I've never seen him play, so I'm not sure if he is the real deal or not.
I would honestly be happy with either player.
EDIT: forgot to add that Monahan is a beast on face-offs...something we sorely need.

So hypothetical scenario:
Lets say Nashville somehow takes Lindholm instead of Barkov, and Carolina wanted Monahan all along. They tell Calgary "we'll give you the 5th pick for the 6th pick so you can draft Barkov, but in return we want your St Louis 1st rounder". Would you do it if you were Feaster?

It wouldn't be a complete disaster but I would consider it a failure. Langkow was ideally a 2nd line center and hardly a franchise player.

Also only broke 62 points when he was playing with Iginla in his prime.

Then blame the lack of a tank.
You don't get franchise players picking 6th, unless you get lucky.

Exactly. Staals down the middle, Skinner on LW & Semin on RW. Build your D Carolina!

Nope. With all due respect to Langkow (who I was a big fan of when he played in here), I want a guy that can put up big numbers and get as close as possible to being a franchise guy. I want a true all star. To me that's what high picks in the first round should be targeting. The other skill sets you can fill in from elsewhere. True elite offensive talent is harder to come by.
If there is a clear answer on who (Lindholm or Monohan) has the higher ceiling on offensive production, I take the point producer every day of the week.

Wouldn't want to create a losing culture or losing 2 more games to get a 1st overall pick.

Wow, it'd be crazy if there were a couple off the board picks. Lets say Carolina bites the bullet and to drafts a dman (Nurse), and Nasvhille ends up taking Lindholm. Calgary could potentially get Barkov! Wishful thinking, I know, but stranger things have happened.
The icing on the cake would be if the Oilers also go off the board and take Nichuschkin when Monahan was still available. I think that'd be my ideal draft day.

Every scouting report I've seen says that Lindholm has a very high Hockey IQ and has three zone acumen. In terms of strengths (if not style) they seem to share many of the same qualities. For me the deciding factor is that Lindholm has played and played well in what is mostly an adult league while Monahan hasn't. I'm happy with either (provided that Barkov or another of the top 4 doesn't drop).

agree (well in part, I'm still not sure what more can be done to make players tank; they had gutted the roster and did some other stuff that should have worked - obviously in retrospect playing kids is bad for tanking, but we're new at this)
anyways , may have missed a year but quickly looking at 20 years of number 6 picks starting in 1990- I believe there is one true franchise player (?), Forsberg- although a bunch of good players (Smyth, Stillman, Hartnell, Ekman-Larsson etc- in some ways Langkow equivalents)
a franchise player would be great- but if our pick ends up as a Langkow- that's not too bad (especially if we don't give up on him as Langkow's first couple teams did (if I recall correctly- don't remember the particulars of how he left Tbay and Philly anymore)
will have to sink lower next year though

One thing I'm learning from this poll ... on draft day, a lot of us are going to be really happy and the rest of us are still going to be pretty happy.

Perry, Getzlaff were picked outside of the top 5 in a comparably deep draft. Iginla wasn't even a top 5 pick. It happens all the time. I believe the Flames have to shoot higher than Langkow with this pick and I'm willing to be they agree.

If they used those exact words? No I wouldn't, because it'd be obvious that they didn't want to take the guy that I want and therefor it'd be a waste of a first. If they pitched it absent any information at all I'd consider it, maybe counter with the Pens pick if I didn't want to rol the dice on Barkov falling an extra spot.

I hear you harp on this, but am I getting that you're blaming the team for not tanking? Because again, what would you have them do? Actual losses don't change things moving forward, but asking players to lose most certainly does

Agreed, which leads me to believe Feaster will be trying very hard to move up and get one of the 4 franchise players he spoke of in his presser.
This franchise can't afford to have this draft come and go without adding a player of siginifcant impact to the team.
