I don't think the Pens and Blues picks for the Oilers pick is a realistic scenario unless they throw in another player. If you were the Oilers, would you do that trade? I certainly wouldn't. They would want a decent prospect or player back in return. Heck, if I were them, I'd ask for the Blues pick and Brodie.

No, assuming it's the 22nd and 29th I'd say Feaster would be lucky to get the 10th with it.

Except it wasn't you that had a press conference and stated you were a very impatient man and that you are looking to parlay your number 7 pick for more picks. You aren't the GM of a team that has missed the playoffs for 7 years. So I guess we wait and see just how desperate MacT is and how valuable his number 7 pick is or is it just more of the same.

3.
I'd want MacKinnon but not a whole lot more then Barkov, if Jones is likely to be taken #1 then I would swap picks with Florida and get something extra added. If they pull a swerve and take Mackinnon then I just happily take Barkov.

That's true, but it could just be him throwing it out there to see what interest there is for that 7th pick. I just can't see them trading a 7th overall pick for 2 mid to late 20s picks. What would be the point? They lose out on a higher rated prospect and don't better their team in anyway.
To me, I really think MacT is dangling that pick hoping to get a top 4 dman and a later round pick in return.

If the Flames manage to win the lottery, I forsure would trade down as long as the complimentary asset coming back is enough (plus a top 1st round pick).
If I am the Flames I would be looking at one of Jones, Drouin, Mackinnon.
I would keep trading down until I am forced to "settle for one of them".
For example if 2nd overall pick team wants 1st overall to make sure they get their guy, you get their 1st (snd overall) plus an asset. I would do that again with the 3rd overall team (if they want a certain guy again). Now if in the first two picks if someone goes off the board and 2 of the 3 guys I mentioned above is still on the table, then you trade down again for the 4th overall pick.

If we somehow won the lottery, we should just take MacKinnon. We don't need to risk trading down and having the other team have a change of heart.

I agree. If they don't have any bites on the 7th pick for a top 4 D man, i think they will be looking at moving Yakopov or Gagner + for a top 4 d-man and will keep the 7th pick.

I would drop down to #2 if Florida was for certain to take Jones. I agree if Florida was thinking MacKinnon, then just keep the pick and draft MacKinnon.
This is no slight on Jones. I think he is going to be a monster, but i have very high doubts that he will stay in Calgary when he becomes UFA years down the road.

Right, but there are no guarantees, so why chance it? The guy (MacKinnon) more than meets our needs, we have the pick, take it.

If the Flames had the #1 and Florida had #2 and Calgary agreed to trade the #1 for the #2 + on the condition that Florida doesn't select MacKinnon, why would Florida do the trade? It seems obvious Calgary wants to select MacKinnon if they're conditioning the trade on protecting him. Would it be just to avoid another team (Colorado) jumping up to take Jones? But then, if Calgary falls to #3 in a trade with the Avs, they're risking not going to get MacKinnon anyways.
If the Flames win the lottery and want to trade down I think it will be #3 or lower.

Yes, accept. However I don't see Edmonton taking that offer, we'd have to add more. They might deal down with CJB though.
If we did end up with the 6 and 7 I would hope Nurse would still be there because Monahan + Nurse or Lindholm + Nurse seems more balanced than Monahan + Lindholm with our need for another top pairing defenseman and the fact we've already got Backlund, Jankowski and Reinhart at centre. Obviously too many centres isn't the worst problem as you could move one to the wing.
I'd love two top 7 picks. Don't see it happening though. I think its more likely we trade up into the top 3-4.

Oilers could use some additional tenders in the pipeline.
Add a guy like Ortio to the two 1sts.
I have no idea if that would work.

Yes. If Florida and Colorado both want Jones badly enough you could pit them against one another. At least bluff and say you're going to take Colorado's offer if Florida doesn't offer you a 2nd + their 1st to move up or whatever.

Okay. For me, MacKinnon >>>> Drouin + 2nd rounder. The risk of trading down to 3 and losing the chance to draft Jones or MacKinnon is not worth the risk.

Using the NFL numbers (and I recognize that there are some reasons to argue that there would be differences in the valuations), the #7 pick is valued at 1,500. The 22nd and 29th work out to 1420 (780 and 640) so that is right in the ballpark - 21 and 27, for instance, would be worth more than #7.

If we win the lottery then we should just draft the consensus BPA in Jones. That is unless you think he'll leave after 7 years. If that's the case then just draft Mackinnon don't bother with the trading down rigmarole.

We're not going to win the lottery. We are cheering for the Flames... the Flames don't win things like the draft lottery. The Flames have teams below them win the lottery pushing their pick back to #7. It's just a law of nature.

Which roster player would they want though? Gio? Glencross?
