So much for him not going anywhere from DET.

Friedman touched on the Dallas situation last week. Rumors were that Burke was going to be the new GM. Very interesting.

Nill would have had many open door to choose from.
I don't think that I would choose Dallas personally, because you wouldn't be confident that you always had a full budget to deal with.

I think former legendary players get too much leeway. I expect Yzerman's next only question is how long it takes.

Maybe we bring back nieuwendyk to replace feaster?
I'd use green text but I'm not sure whether I'm sarcastic or not

Would be cool to see Niewy to come in to CGY at some capacity.

The Neal for Goligoski trade was a steal for Pittsburgh. Other bad trades. Ryder and a 3rd for Cole. Still don't understand why he gave up a 3rd let alone trading for Cole.

Thankfully Dallas is no longer in our division. At least he didn't go to Edmonton.
Extremely disappointing though. The perfect guy to fill the GM position and he goes to Dallas.

We missed out on Davidson, and now we miss out on Nill.

That Pardy contract was also terrible.

Dallas current owner is the guy who owns the Blazers with Doan and Iginla, no money issues there. Owns Sandmen, Dennys, Moxies, Chop etc to name a few.
Decent hire but nothing special, Detroit's been handing out dumb contracts for couple years now and he must've had a hand in them.

 Always good candidates available.

I couldn't agree more. What Yzerman has given up for two average (at best) goalies is proof enough.

Nill has learned in a model franchise. It'll be interesting to see if he can do it as the head of a franchise.

Will be interesting how he does on his own. Everyone thinks he's good because he's been associated with Red Wings for so long, but he was only assistant.

Was there some sort of system in the new CBA to compensate teams when their coach, GM, hockey ops etc. gets poached by another team?

I was just about to post about how Nieuwy hadn't done too bad for himself in Dallas, but after having some posters recall some of the headscratching moves over the past couple of years I guess I never really realized how below-average he has been.
Good pick up for the Stars.
