why did Kiprusoff sit the last 2?

If he's really planning to retire, is that how he wanted to go out -- on the bench?
Doesn't seem right to me, for a guy as competitive as that. And you have to believe they gave him the choice. Maybe it's just me but I think he's back next year.

he won his last game at home and got a big standing ovation from the crowd. That's way better than being on the losing end against two playoff-bound teams, especially since losing those two was both inevitable and necessary.

EDIT: whoops, forgot that he played in Nashville ...

I'm sure if he wanted to play one of the final two, he wanted to.
He's earned the right to sit in this situation.

I was a little disappointed he played in Nashville. Having tgat 5 minute standing O for kipper with him picking up the win was a great way to go out. That his how I will remember him

If he's so competitive then you'd think he doesn't particularly care about games that don't mean anything. Some rumours out of Fan960 that he was actually surprised he got the start against NSH and perhaps wasn't super keen to be playing that game.

I think the last few road games were irrelevant to how he wanted to go out. He won his last two home games convincingly and was sent off to a nice cheer.

I don't know. I think that if a player is competitive, he doesn't care that the games don't mean anything. You can see that in action in just about any beer league.

I was really hoping Hartley was going to put him out there for the last 10 minutes of the Blackhawks game.

I heard Steinberg and Rogers talking about who should start, and if MacDonald is going to be the #1 next year he would probably play the last two games.
He did, so I suspect we'll see him as the starter next year and Kipper retired.

Who knows what Hartley is doing, doesn't make a lot of sense.
I thought at the time that Kiprusoff got those last 2 games at home just for the fans (otherwise it would've been McDonald all the way if this was a different situation at it wasn't the franchise's best ever goalie), but then he threw him out there again, as part of with the worst lineup in probably 13 years (Pre-Iginla 52 goal season) at least on the road vs. Nashville. Almost as if it's punishment.

McDonald, sick with the flu, ends up playing those last two games when he's not 100%.

McDonald is going to be here next season and Kiprusoff isn't. It's as simple as that. I don't believe they played McDonald because they wanted to lose because McDonald has been the better goalie this season.

Im glad Kipper didn't play. His last game will be a dominating home ice win, like it should have been. And we needed to lose these last 2 games.

that's because Kipper will not retire next season. He might still be hurt a little and they decided better not aggravate the injury as he is planning to be a 100% healthy at the start of the season.

Probably because they weren't going to win either of those last 2 games.

I am happy he didn't play the lat 2 games for a few reasons. I really didn't want us to win those games, wanted his last game to be a dominating win at home, he Flames had no chance to wn and having him go out after either of those games would have sucked.
I hope he calls it a career soon. I really reallydon't want this be drawn out for a while.

When he has his press conferance to announce he's retiring, I'll wear one of my Kipper jerseys and be both happy he played for us and sad that he' leaving.
