Flames have been stupid with asset management for a decade now, time to improve that part of the organization.
Absolutely agreed, if we can get him for 2 more years for $3.5M total, he is a solid asset, or a low risk bust. If they are keeping Hudler and Stajan around, Cervenka should be kept as well, if they are lined together and can show their initial chemistry again, all become 40+ point getters, solid for a 2nd/3rd line, surrounded by youth.

I'd like to keep him but how many LWs do we need, especially soft ones. He doesn't fit with us unless we make a deal to fit him in but probably some other NHL team will want him .

Sign him on a one-year deal, just under a million, similar to what Joey MacDonald got. For a guy that's on pace for just under 20 goals in a full season it's a low risk move. His cap hit won't be the near 4 million it was this season either, so we win that way too. If he doesn't elevate his play, no big deal, if he does, it's a win.

Can't see the harm at all.

When Jay Feaster mentioned Cervenka last night he brought up the blood clot and language. It didn't sound like they were anxious to show him the door.

I would like to see what the guy could do with a healthy training camp and an off season of knowing what to expect in his head.

That said, they need some beef in the line up.

I have the feeling he is done with the NHL. Flames will want to re-sign him but he will bolt back to Europe.

We currently have six top NINE wingers that would be ahead of him on the depth chart signed for next season:

1. Cammalleri
2. Tanguay
3. Hudler
4. Glencross
5. Stempniak
6. Baertschi

So, let's say we trade one of the above listed wingers away, and re-sign Cervenka to take his spot as a top nine winger.

Fine by me, get an asset for the traded winger, and hopefully Cervenka can continue to show improvement at the NHL level.

It doesn't do anything to address the size/physicality/toughness/defensive ability concerns we have though.

Wouldn't mind seeing him back on the team next year. But wouldn't be too disappointed if he didn't return. Soft, slow, and irresponsible defensively from what I've seen. He's definitely got skills though and I'd be interested in seeing what he can do in a full season once comfortable.

My guess is two of those guys will be traded in the off season.

Can't see him re-signed unless we trade two of Tanguay, Hudler, Stempniak. Given the conference the Flames will be playing in, adding size and grit on the wings is going to be a priority.

I don't know why you would invest a player to give up on him after a shortened season. Between the language barrier, the shortened season, his injury, and the poor team around him I think he has a chance to be a good player. He is starting to show his stuff over the last week.

We might have a bunch of wingers. But we don't have a bunch of mid 20 players. I say sign him to a one or two year contract.

Missing training camp definitely set this guy back. He's a solid scoring option for the top 6. Anything 2 years or less I'm fine with. Not too concerned even if we have to overpay him 500k, as long as term is short. It actually makes sense for the Flames to overpay for 1 year contracts. Good trade deadline bait.

Cervenka is a good "band aid" during this mini rebuild. Most likely Cammalleri is traded by the deadline next year. Tanguay maybe a buy-out candidate. Stemniak most likely traded by the deadline as well. All of a sudden the Flames winger postion becomes shallow if a few of those moves come true.

No room for a soft forward that is bad in his own zone. Flames need to get rid of a couple of floaters, not re-sign one of them.

I think he's a valuable asset, and will only get better with time. However I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to another team and do much better, as many others have done.

I think he has got better as time went on, a full training camp plus his play this season would do a lot for him next year.

I would give him the exact same contract again.
