				 Connor McDavid Discussion

Disclaimer: I have not watched this player at all.
This guy seems to be getting huge media coverage, and ripping apart the U-18 Tournament. He just turned 16 years old.

Scouts saying he would go FIRST OVERALL this year if eligible....but he isn't eligible for another TWO years. 2015 eligible.

How do you not tank the next 2 seasons if you can grab someone on Crosby's level....wow.

A couple of years ago they were saying the same things about Mackinnon. Not saying anything, just saying...

We won't be that bad in two years. Next year maybe, but I think the year after that we're look at a late 10's low teens pick

The draft lottery was changed so that teams couldn't specifically tank to get a player like this. Being in 30th place only gives a team a 25% chance of picking 1st overall.

Honestly, we shouldn't get our hopes up for McDavid in Calgary. The chances are very slim, given that we have no idea what happens in two years and I don't think we will be picking first overall then... maybe, at worst, where we are now.
I'm just happy a talent like him is coming into the league, regardless of where he plays.

Lets trade half of our roster and try to get 10 first round picks in 2015. Then we'll have better than a 33% chance of drafting this guy!!!

I've heard he's the cockiest kid people have seen in hockey.
But I guess that'll happen for a kid in his situation.

Bit early to start a thread about McDavid no?

Anyhoo who says that (that he'd go first overall)? I've heard that he'd be in the top half of the first round but I haven't heard #1 (Assuming this is a hypothetical world where he's 18 not 16). But in a world where you could draft him at 16? Yes I think he'd go #1.

Regardless, from what little I've seen the hype is accurate. Unreal skill for someone so young, I don't think he'll be as good as Crosby but legitimately mentioning him in the same breath? Yeah, I can see that easy.

Go for Tyler Benson or Sean Day while you are at it.

If I was amazing at hockey at 16, with everyone around me constantly pumping my tires, i would be the cockiest person in the world.

That's pretty much always been said about any highly touted phenom ever. And is true about many without the game to back it up.
And you need at least some, if not a lot, of that to be that guy.

Not while the U18 is going on and he is running the show against players more than a year older... something which Crosby never did, btw.
The question as to whether he stays that far ahead is another matter, but will be fun to watch.
