Yes the Habs season was a fluke, this year did show that. I also wasn't cheering for them to succeed this year after they quit on each other last season. If you were trying to make a point I missed, please be more clear.

It's sad that another solid Canadian talent (Mackinnon/Drouin) is going to play out their career in Florida obscurity. Seems like a waste to me.

There's a good chance that a solid American talent will play out his career in Florida obscurity as well.

But we have a bunch of young players auditioning right now so they are playing their hearts out.

How could anyone not cheer for the effort of this team at the moment? Itīs not the fault of the guys on the ice that the team sucked for years. Those "key pieces" have either been traded or are not playing at the moment that are mostly responsible for that.

Well with Florida's loss today, they'd have to win all their remaining games to even tie us and we'd still have more wins.
That Tampa/Carolina tomorrow will be big. But I think Tampa is the team to cheer for. The only game I could see Carolina potentially getting a point is the last one against Pittsburgh who will have nothing to play for and could sit everyone.
Really need to lose that Nashville game.

Im still optimistic the flames can be picking 4th overall. Tampa still has Carolina and Florida both at home, so basically if we lose to Nashville theres a very realistic chance both Nashville and Tampa pass us.

Yup.
Ether one of them passes us and we draft 5th, or they both do and we draft 4th
(pre-lottery factoring of course)

The way the Flames have been playing as of late I expect them to spank the Predators team that has been given the remainder of the season off. Disappointing that of all franchises a hard working one like the Preds would play the loser game but it is a really good draft.

The standings at the moment are:
6) Calgary
7) Edmonton
8) Philadelphia
(assuming that's how it ended) it is a reasonable assumption that both Edm and Phi would be interested in Nurse.
It might be an interesting idea to look at swapping with Philly. Beyond the side bonus that it screws the Oilers, the Flames could pick up another asset and probably still get the same player.
If Edm takes Monahan, you go Nichushkin. If Edm takes another D (Risto or the Russian), we have our choice of Mon or Nich (or if the top 5 included either Mon or Nich, then whoever falls out - either Lindholm or Barkov).
Same pick plus another asset,

Wish we still had our 2nd rounder, so that it would be easier to swallow flipping the Pittsburgh pick to move up a few spots. I would really love 3 solid foundational assets to emerge from this draft. One way or another.

Yeah. That second rounder would've been huge. Really, only a 5-7 spot difference from the Pittsburgh pick. The Pittsburgh pick is "sexier" to dangle and move up while effectively being similar to our second rounder.

I would bet that the Pittsburgh pick is used to move up, and if that proves to be unsuccessful it will be used to draft Zachary Fucale.

The game is Nashville and no one will be watching.... Pull the goalie in the second period and practice the last minute of the game plans 40 times.
This is an exhibition game that is better to lose.

I hope we don't draft Fucale in the first... this organization needs to stop going after goalies in the draft now. Certainly not in the first round.
Especially with all of the other holes this team has. Only one goalie can play at a time...

Ya agreed on not picking a goalie all things being equal. If scouting thinks a goalie is far and away the best guy in a spot grab them but if its close, steer clear. Needs outside of the crease are too great and between Ramo, Berra, Brossoit, Gilles, Ortio and MacDonald I think we can wait one more year before you put another goalie in the pipeline.
I really hope we don't trade down with any of the 1sts.
I'd rather add quality over quantity at this point and they will have a good haul even standing pat.
If desperate for a 2nd or 3rd, peddle somebody off the roster IMO. The kids have shown they can fill a couple slots and a Stajan or Stempniak with just 1 year left on the contract would bring one of those picks.

This is pure comedy tonight. Calgary is getting their butts handed to them getting outshot 23-11 and yet winning looking like they are going to drop another draft slot past the Oilers down to 7th.
I know winning is a nice feeling for the day but long term the franchise just can't catch a break at all down the stretch here, I feel almost sick watching the team move from 2nd overall down to 7th over the last week and a half.

Can someone please explain to the kids how the draft order works?
The Flames are giving up a lot of shots, but they're not giving up a ton a prime scoring chances. The shot count is almost as deceiving as the score.

So what do you suggest? Maybe we should trade our best forward for the past 10 yrs, and trade a big minute eater. Also, maybe we should call up a large number of AHL players, or better yet throw some NCAA fella's into the mix.
You know what #### it, let's just give the coach a towel, and hopefully he can time it to hit the ice when the first puck drops.
