I know, but the fact was he was Ducks property and decided to go to UFA and sign with the Oilers instead.
If that's a sign of his decision making skills then I look forward to watching the Flames play against him for many years to come.
Isn't the reason he didn't sign with the Ducks is so he could become a UFA? That way he could control his destiny right from the start instead of being an RFA first?
To me the horrible decision was picking the Oilers out of all the teams that pursued him. Only logical reason would be the promise of top line pairing minutes....?

I think the guy is in it to try to up his personal stats as much as possible so he can get a big payday in a couple of years. I'm guessing he was hoping to rack up the points on a run and gun Oilers offense while getting top D minutes. That way, after his contract his up, he cashes in big time.

Yes to all of the above.
Like I said, deciding to sign with the Oilers was a poor choice. Anybody can see with that management that the team is not being run properly at all.
Lowe got his buddy Gretzky to phone Schultz on the Oilers behalf. I wonder in retrospect how Wayne feels about steering the kid in the wrong direction. I bet he feels bad about it.
You know that presser was going to be a bad one when Lowe takes that jab at TSN and it was just awkward silence (or some reporter was smirking or something, couldn't quite hear)
The depends people missed an opportunity for a celebrity endorsement. They should have asked Lowe if he would wear one for charity because I swear when he went on his rant he probably pooped himself a little.

I'm still completely flabbergasted at some of the comments from the presser yesterday.
Still paying for all the success they had in the '80s and early '90s?
I'm an impatient guy, and I'm going to bring that to the GM role?
Plus he damn near stepped over the tampering line first day on the job.
I'd be frightened out of my wits if I were an Oiler fan.
Haha that's true now that you mention it. Didn't Kevin say MacT was integral in getting Pronger when he was a coach or something? Is that what you're alluding to?

No, he brought up Milan Lucic's name as an example of the type of player they want to get.

Pretty dumb thing to do.
Isn't Lucic signed til the end of 2016 season?
If I was the Bruins GM after the season, I would say "You want to make the gutsy move and sit in the big boy club. I'll give you Lucic for your next 3 first round picks or Hall and Eberle and a 1st.
I mean your desperate right"

And for $6 million per season. He's a good player, but that much money for that term is a bit much for him IMO.

Easy to say right now the decision looks bad - maybe it will turn out to have been a mistake over the long haul and maybe not. Little early to say, 40 games into his NHL career.
Surprised OILFAN#81 hasn't commented on this yet. This announcement must have crippled the entire Oilers fan base.
I'm still here. Haven't posted here or on the Oilers board for awhile. Life/work has got busy. In terms of the move, I wouldn't have minded it as much had they fired Lowe along with Tambellini. I don't mind MacT but Lowe is poison and needed to be fired with Tambellini.

You need new material. I live in SJ but don't like the Sharks.
