Why would they need generators when they're sitting on power grids.
Looking at the scene pictures I'm not seeing cables or anything like that.
The finish line of the Boston Marathon which is one of the Worlds more known sporting events and where there would be a lot of cameras and media coverage.
I've never believed in coincidences when it comes to stuff like this.
Its just too juicy of a target to pass up in a major city. It would be like planting devices at the mid point of the Stampede Parade.
If there searching for devices in other building it makes me wonder.
Nothing concrete yet, but in first inspection . . .

Again, I don't think it was generators just saying his reasoning for it not being generators was wrong.
This is probably from some small anti-abortion group or something of the like.

No idea, but there are always tons of generators set up for the NYC Marathon finish area which has access to power grids.
I don't think it was a generator, more just wishful thinking.

I finished the 25,000 runner Los Angeles Marathon just a month ago . . . . a sea of humanity for 26.2 miles and hundreds of thousand spectators. Pretty similar to Boston.
Pretty juicy target if you're a bad guy.
Very sad.

WASHINGTON, April 15 (Reuters) - The New York Police Department has stepped up security around landmarks in Manhattan, including near prominent hotels, in response to at least one explosion near the finish line of the Boston marathon on Monday, said Paul Browne, deputy commissioner of the NYPD.
Browne told Reuters that New York police were re-deploying counter-terrorism vehicles around the city.

Not really the anti-abortion mo though, they usually directly attack the clinics and employees themselves they don't subscribe to General terrorism, they feel that if they make those clinics unsafe that people won't go there or work there.
This is either Islamic terrorism whether domestic or international (this is their mo), or white supremest or other hate groups, except White supremacist type groups haven't shown a lot of competence or ability to pull off an attack like this.

this is one of the great contradictions: we have to see humanity at its worst to see humanity at its best.

Deadspin has been leading the way on coverage so far. Some graphic updates in there. Also of note, the families of some of the Newtown victims were being hosted in the VIP area near the explosions.

Gut feeling says Timothy McVeigh-esque domestic terrorist. Boston seems like it would be an attractive target for that sort of anti-government attack. Who knows though?

Apparently the 26 mile marker (.2 miles from the explosions) was designated as a memorial to the Sandy Hook victims, so this could have been an anti-government/pro-gun nut.

Not solely because there were two, but because of the size of the explosion captured on video.
Contrary to what movies show you, things don't just explode like that.

Yeah, "birth of independence"/"tea party" bullcrap using this as a symbol as an affront to government tyranny (i.e. taking away guns).

Yep, how incredibly brave do you have to be to be rushing to the scene instead of running away knowing very well that another bomb could go off at any second.

It was 4:09 on the clock at the finish line so about 2/3rds of the field would still be running/walking further back on the course when the explosions happened.
