There are three games that involve both teams battling for a playoff spot or for the division lead.

The first game is the Islanders at Bruins. After two periods, the Islanders lead 2-1. The Bruins played last night so there might be a slight advantage to the Islanders. I am impressed that the Islanders are 7-1-1 in their past nine games.

The second game is the Blues at Wild. This is probably not a sexy game but the winner of this game could end up being in fourth place in the western conference. The Blues lead 1-0 after one period and who knows, that could be it for scoring in this game as the Blues have won their past two games by that score.

The Sharks at Red Wings has Detroit on thin ice as they sit in eighth place. It is 1-1 midway through the second period. The Sharks scored first on a shorthanded goal by Marleau early in the game.

That is crazy! Checking the game summary, the first four goals were scored in 2:31. The Panthers are playing without any pressure and the Jets are going all out offense as the Jets outshot the cats 17-9 in the first period.

The bad news for the Jets is that the Capitals have a 2-1 lead over the Hurricanes and so do the Islanders over the Bruins.

So here I am watching the Carolina vs. Washington game. And I find myself wondering when the heck did Eric Staal turn into frozen molasses? Part of me wonders if he is injured but he does not look like the same guy who won a cup a few years ago.
