I like the look of Adam Erne for the St Louis pick. 6'1", 195lbs RW in the Q
ISS Top 30 #18 Adam Erne @Adamerne73 Tremendous offensive smarts - goes to dirty areas. Good shot. At best when plays with an edge/physical.

He intrigues me as well. Some more info:

Erne had the best showing of any player from the Q, using his powerful stride to create separation on the outside and created offense steadily. Erne also was a breakout catalyst, seeming to always make the right decisions with the puck whether it was dumping the puck or making a nice cross-ice pass.
So on sportsnet they touted Seth Jones as the undisputed number 1 in the upcoming draft. If that is the case and Calgary does get the first overall for the first time in their history...do you take Seth? Or draft McKinnon the Centre that's always coveted by all teams?

I'm blinded by the fact that we needed a number one centre for Iggy for so long. I guess my brain is now hardwired into wanting to gain a proper one for our rebuilding team. I've never studied these young athletes, never seen them play in front of my eyes, and outside of the WJC I've only seen Mac/Drou/Jones a total of 3 times.
I like Jones. I think he's going to be a stud. I just can't shake the thought that we pass up on MacKinnon (for example) and then we don't have another opportunity to get a franchise centre.
I hope Colorado wants Seth bad enough that they truly 'out tank us' or if we somehow end up below them..that they deal their pick+ for ours.

^^The guys on Sportsnet- Brad May and John Shannon- both state that Jones is the best player, and I think Shannon says he's the best player by a bit or words to that effect.
Referred to the mid-MArch ISS rankings: Jones #1, Nichushkin #2, MacKinnon #3

If he is the decisive BPA then you take him. If several players are close in talent/potential then you can then draft by positional need.

If he is the #1 choice and it's obvious, then I either draft him or I call up Florida/Colorado to see what they will offer to trade up. If it's not good enough, then take Jones and work it out later.
But there is no way I would pass over the obvious #1 choice under any circumstance.

Just watching the avalanche and thinking to myself how many really good forwards they have, and how they always seem to get solid goaltending, so what's missing? Really highlights the importants of a top end two way defenseman. A drew doughty, or Duncan Keith. Someone who quickly takes the puck out of your end and puts in in the offensive zone.
That's why I thinly, if Jones is the best player, and we end up with the first pick. You have to take Jones.

Beating the only team worse than us that clearly has no intention of putting in a winning effort the rest of this season does not imply that we'll somehow now go on a decent enough stretch to pass 2-3 teams above us. Especially when most of the games left are on the road, where *news flash* we just lost 13 straight.
As long as we end up in 2nd, 3rd drafting position at worst, then we can still get one of the canadian kids and a crack at a franchise center.
Today, but Carolina is dropping like a rock and Tampa has some major suck potential. Plus we have a game in hand on Florida.
True, they do have 2 wins on us though, and there's always the lottery. Either way we'll leave this draft with a high quality prospect, and at this point in time it seems like we'll be finishing at the bottom for the next few years so I'm sure we'll have more cracks at top 5 picks.
Well, I guess the Flames will have to settle for Barkov, woe are the Flames eh?
Or heaven forbid Nichushkin. If Edmonton can make a core player out of Yakupov why can't we hit a home run with this guy again? Why do Flames fans hate Russians again? When was the last time we had a Russian on this roster anyway. Bure?
Someone enlighten me. This org would kill for an Ovie, Semin, Datsyuk on this team.
