My fiancée and I got a Boston Terrier in December. She's 6 months old now and a lot of fun. Don't know how to post pics of her here, but they all look pretty similar anyway.
-edit: added her to my avatar.

Crowd sourcing to select a dog? Sounds like a recipe for success.

I have had at least one dog in our family as far back as I can remember. Sometimes 2. We have never paid for a dog. Most came from people giving away and the last few came from rescues. If you don't know exactly what kind of dog you are looking for I would recommend going to the Humane society I am sure there is 1 there looking for a home(maybe 2) that you will fall in love with.
Our last one is quite different looking I will see if I can find out how to upload pictures and put one on.
Good Luck

I have a Bernese Mountain Dog... he's a great family dog, not the dog to get if want one of the more protective aggressive breeds that seem to be real popular these days but kind of like a golden in terms of being friendly to everyone and really good around kids. Goofy, happy dog. He is a big as a small horse though (110lbs) so you do need a decent sized yard or access to trails. Also, they need haircuts every 4-6 months or you are picking dog hair up like crazy. We had issues finding a breeder in AB so we got him from a place out east, I can send their contact via PM if you need.
Edit.. did find a couple pics with the big dog bonus - he can carry stuff for us on hikes!:

I got my dog from Pawsitive Match Because their dogs are being fostered by volunteers, they were able to find a great match for my family.

We foster/fostered for them.
We have 3 dogs right now. 1 was from a breeder and we got him when he was a tiny puppy. Our other two were a private surrender, and were both nearly 6 when we got them.

we don't have a dog of our own, but we ALWAYS get to doggie-sit our neighbour's little guy
he's a maltese poodle (malti-poo). maybe 10lbs. cute, but really co-dependent (but that's more of his owner's doing). does well around kids too... as long as they don't bug him too much

Pawsitive Match is a great organization and I highly recommend adopting a dog through them.

Ill join the party. No 100% answer as to what he is... Vet has him as a boston mixed with a french bull dog but since he has grown to be bigger than both of those they think it might have been a boxer instead of french bull dog.

I have a Boston as well. I bought her right after the Bruins won the cup and named her Lucci!
One of the best dogs I've owned.

Get a labradoodle! I can recommend a breeder south of Calgary.

Great many charities will help with finding perfect four (or three) legged family members for you. Pound Rescue, AARCS, Heaven Can Wait. Misty Creek and many others. Look out for adoption events at Sleep Rover and Bow Dog coming up. They have numerous charities attending each one. I will repost when i find the details. Good luck. Remember it is a lifetime commitment and get insurance. Good luck.
Dang. The Bow Dog one was this weekend. Sorry.
