These are the type of players that are not usually hard to find in the 'half-price' bin. This type of asset management is why the Flames can't even do a rebuild properly and they will be wallowing near the bottom of the league for years. If someone is willing to offer you anything for Curtis Freaking Glencross you listen to the offer.
|
People are assuming that Feaster didn't listen or consider any of the offers sent his way. Everyone wants to improve their team and give up as little as possible as a return. I read today the Wings weren't prepaired to give up a 1st round pick for Bouwmeester and only wanted to send the Flames some prospects.

Contract negotiation coming up. Probably a good thing he didn't mention Backlund's name as part of that list.
(I hope they keep Backlund around though, for sure)

If they were any of their top prospects you take that. Feaster does have to draft someone with the pick, so I'd rather he just acquire prospects that are progressing well than whiff on the podium.

I'd take a top prospect too but I highly doubt that was being offered.

Sounds like the worse core in the league to me.
No more players should be on the list there should be no players on the list.

He's played at 30 goal pace this season and last. That isn't a 3rd line winger.

Yeah, that is curious. Isn't the point of a fire sale to make everybody & everything available for the right price?

Feaster would make a great sales manager at Canyon Creek Toyota.

Glencross should not be considered untouchable or a core player. He is not a game to game impact player. He can score and when he's on he can score in bunches but some times he disappears for games at a time. He is basically Rene bourque with a better contract. Both can put up points when motavated, but they simply arnt top line guys.
If the team is going start building around Gio and Glenncross then they have more problems than orininally thought. Both are good complimentary players but shouldn't be counted upon as go to guys.

Burke would not work for these meddling owners.

I can imagine him selling cars based on their zoomability and post-mark-up affordability.
When that didn't work he can tell the boss sorry for selling 0 cars this year but now his assistant realizes they didn't focus enough on consumer gushiology and now will only focus on selling to customers with purchase assurance complexes.

He's tied for 9th in the league for goals, I'll take his complimentary play.

People putting way too much stock in this statement. When you have assets like Giordano and Glencross you don't go around broadcasting that you are selling. You give the appearance that these assets need to be pried out. If someone came along with an offer he could not refuse, any of these assets would be moved.

Mentioned once or twice... but Backlund? Though its been another injury filled season, Backlund has really looked like he wants to be "the guy" this year.....

He may look like he wants but he certainly has been playing like he could be.
Another year, injuries or not, where looks like a 3rd line C at best.
But I guess he is still young and could take a huge step forward at some point if we are lucky.

Stajan was 2nd or 3rd in scoring when he was traded from the Leafs in 09/10 IIRC.
IMHO Glencross is most effective when he is producing on the 2nd line, not as the guy. He's a good complementary piece.

The vultures were definitely swirling today and I'm sure Feaseter had a lot of laughable offers. If the same players are still desired by other teams come draft time the offers will be considerably better.

Why wouldn't he announce it? If you haven't really noticed, Flames have been sellers going into the trade deadline.
Obviously, he's going to name a few that will be hard to get at while the rest are all fair game.

exactly, never understood why he played 1st line minutes when I see him as a 2nd/3rd.

I think the sad truth is that we've entered an Al Davis/Bill Wirtz kind of era, where our only hope is death/bankruptcy or some other force majeure...
