Ohh, so you'll boo arguably our most important player over the past 10 years because he is choosing to retire? That makes absolutely no sense, he wasn't going to be getting back a 1st and Morgan Reilly, at best a 2nd round pick. Not to mention the guy is one of the more classy and respectful players around. It baffles me that some people are so upset with losing out on a 2nd or 3rd round pick instead of seeing our greatest goaltender retire a flame. If I were content on where I was, just had a baby, and < 20 games in my career I'd do the exact same thing.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it could potentially help out Vancouver if they are able to offload Luongo to the Leafs and get a better return.

Kipper should retire now then if he isn't willing to honor his contract as it's written. Agreed his right to retire whenever he wants, but this half baked crap he's pulling to collect the last of his pay check this year when he isn't willing to collect according to the terms he signed years ago is such BS.
On the birght side, running with a completely checked out goalie until the end of the season might be good for the Flames, it will surely help us continue our fall down the standings which will be helpful for next year.

NHL contracts can't be modified and often don't contain every little stipulation. We have no idea how many assurances Kipper received prior to signing his contract and assurances he received throughout his contract.
Kipper's contract is a bit weird in the way its structured. That last year for little money suggests he doesn't intend to play his final year. The expiration of his NMC last seasons suggests Kipper agreed to the possibility that if things aren't working out he would be traded to another team this season.

What a stupid thing to say. The two things have virtually nothing to do with one another.

Kipper was a soldier of Calgary. Honour him!

Seriously?
A few comments about people not agreeing with the decision makes you question how proud you are to be a Flames fan?

They opened no such door. If he's willing to honor his contact in Calgary for 10 more games he should honor it elsewhere. He's refusing to report no different than Nabakov. What makes it tolerable for me is that he genuinely appears to want to retire anyways at seasons end. Fine. But if he plays next season he's no different than any other hold out this board has slammed. He's not bigger than the Flames. From our perspective it's pretty crazy to put his family needs above the organization. A lot of players make family sacrifices and are well compensated for then.

The only negative thing that I can say about Kipper, is that he kept everyone from realizing how mediocre the Flames really were for so long. He served Calgary well (probably too well!), and if we wants to walk away from the game at 36 after having a baby with complications, I can't argue with that. He owes the franchise and the fans nothing more, especially a final year of a contract that everyone knew was a devalued wildcard to spread his cap hit out. That benefited the Flames as well, don't forget.
Go forth, old man Kipper. May the fishing in Finland be wonderful and your family healthy. Your work is done here.

No problem with his decision.
No point in moving if you're going to retire at the end of the season. No to mention that he's earned the right to do that.

My problem is with posters who most certainly have been presenting themselves as more than merely "not agreeing with the decision".

I have zero desire to be lumped in with the fans bashing one of the greatest players the Flames have had after it's announced he wishes to retire to spend time with his family.

I haven't really seen these comments in here and seen a lot more comments with made up anger about something that isn't here.
I will look again but I think a lot of people are making a much bigger deal about the so-called more than merely disagreeing with the decision comments in here.

I agree that it was stupid, but I'm not ashamed to say that I leaned towards the players during the dispute. Not that it matters though.
I'm glad that we'll see Kipper wind down as a Flames and not be carted in front of cameras happier than a pig in #### just to be gone (not mentioning anyone's name).

Family should trump all. If my wife or kids have a serious issue I drop everything else. I applaud Miikka for having his priorities straight. Unlike you apparently.

Sorry, I've looked but I can't find it here, but if he does retire, he 5.8 millions counts/doesn't count against the cap?
