Why no Stempniak & Stajan trade rumours?
I'm wondering why there has been no mention or trade rumours about either of these two in the press especially given both these guys have had good seasons to this point.
So, how come this is the case?

the title preview got me excited thinking why not stemp or staj on the ice at practice.... Huge stajan fan but might as well have fun with this rebuild while we can.

they both have had a decent bounce back season this year. Some nights Stajan has been the best hardest working forward on the ice.
No complaints with Stajan this year and Stempniak was worth the resigning.

Because we can still get something for them a year from now, and we need to ice an NHL team that tries to win games until then.
They might get moved tomorrow, but if not I'm not phased. Plenty of time to get something for them before they are UFA

From the "pundit"'s perspective (i.e. Eklund, bloggers, etc) , Stajan and Stempniak are bad, overpayed players that nobody would want. The Flames have been amazing at implementing the cone of silence, so nobody seems to know what they're up to. For all we know, the Flames might be talking to the Devils or another team with a cone-of-silence about trading one of the two.

Stajan and Stemp are good foot soldiers for next year.
We do have to make the cap floor, you know.
Also, apparently the media hates Calgary because they don't leak anything. So I imagine there are trade rumors brewing, but the TSN's and Sportsnet's of this world are brushing it off as Calgary arrogance.

I'm not surprised we haven't heard anything about Stajan, but I figured Stempniak would have been fairly high on some lists.

Why would we want to trade our new and improved core?

I'd like them to keep Stajan. He's a C and is playing well under Hartley, also signed for next season.
Trade him at next years deadline.
Stempniak? If someone is willing to overpay for him (1st rd pick), make the trade. Otherwise, see Stajan ^^

I'd trade Stempniak if the return was decent, and I think it could be. I'm not sure if his stock will ever be higher than it is now. Before all of these trades started happening, I though he should be worth a first rounder.
As for Stajan, being a centre on a team in desperate need of good centres, is too valuable to trade.
That's my thoughts, anyway.

I wish we could dump Tanguay. Talk about a guy who has totally checked out after Iginla left.
He wasn't even that great to begin with even when Iginla was around. Sure he put up points, but was atrocious on the backcheck.
In fact, guys like Tanguay and Huselius signalled the end of the dominant two way Iggy as he just never cared much for defense after these two cherry pickers showed up.

Stajan and Stempniak are NHL calibre hockey players that are not physical enough to protect truly skilled players (Hudler, Baertschi, Cammalleri and Tanguay and maybe Backlund) and not skilled enough to merit being protected.
They are basically back-up skilled guys , that can step up and play for short periods in the top 6 in case of injuries.
I would take some semi skilled hard players like Prust or Kostopolus who don't hurt you playing 10-12 minutes a game and makes it easier for the skilled players to reach their potential.
When the Flames used to make the playoffs...... Yelle, Nilson, Clark, Donovan, Moss, Nystrom made it so that Huselius, Conroy and Tanguay did not have to worry about getting out muscled

I hope they keep Stajan, Stempniak could return a 2nd rounder or so. Better off to keep them IMO.
BTW do you ever post anything on here that doesn't involve Stajan or an ex leaf?

Stajan is playing well, not too old and not too young. He's a good guy to have around during a rebuild.
Stempniak on the other hand is playing lights out crazy good and is a UFA, but I can see the need to keep him also.

We should have a trade speculation discussion thread where questions like this could be asked.

because Stempniak is one of the few top forwards we have with any size or grit and Stajan is one of our only two centres.
