for the record I'm not defending Feaster just saying I am fine with the trade...I have posted the last few days that I thought the deal rumored on here were too much and I would be happy with a 1st and dropping the entire salary.

Personally, I don't care much about the prospects we get back. It's the first round picks that were important, and we got 2 more, plus our own first - three picks in the first round (assuming St. L makes to playoffs), in a very deep draft. That is a great start to a rebuild. If any of the other players turn out, then that's just a bonus.

Of course, this all hinges on the Flames doing a good job on drafting players.

St. Louis won this deal? would you trade a 1st for Jaybo? Flames got him for free and its been a disaster other than 30 half decent games in which he is -11

The Cammy and Bourque trade..I consider that a win.

I understand that this is market value if you insist on not keeping any of the 6.8 million next year - but why not? They have only 40 mil committed next year with more vets to go I'm sure and are really only on the hook for 35 since Kipper's deal is a 5.8 cap hit for 1.5 million.

Why not just eat 2 million bucks and get a better return and make the rebuild shorter? Isn't that a better investment in the team than spending 2.5 million re-signing an Anton Babchuk or even more getting Wideman? Makes no sense at all when you've been willing to throw money down the drain on expensive UFA signings for years that ownership would cheap out at this stage.

I'm glad he said it. Edwards will not be happy with this. Edwards might not fire him for the ROR scandle, the bad team, the bad trades, the bad signings ect.. but Edwards be dammed if he is going to let his GM bad mouth Iggy. I don't care what it takes as long as Feaster is fired.

For the record i am kind of on Jays side about how the Iggy trade went down. He should just keep his mouth closed though.

How so? If they'd have eaten some of the $6.6M (say $1M each year) he becomes a lot more attractive. Feaster himself was talking to TSN here in the eastern time zone about 40 mins back, and he said Bouw submitted a list of teams he'd be interested in going, but because of his cap hit and 1 year left, many of those teams backed off which led to only a few negotiating. You're oversimplifying by stating they have 3 first rounders. They have 1 lottary (their own), and 2 presumably very low picks. In past years, those low 1sts either don't pan out or turn into longer term prospects. Very rarely are they impact players in the 25-30 range. Secondly, for your best forward and best d-man, you should expect more than 2 low 1st rounders. It's like selling your company for $1M and saying, "great, I have 1 Million dollars!", but finding out your company was actually worth $1.7M. Sure you have some assets, but what you got was less than what you should have gotten. Shockingly, even Bob McKenzie was fairly vocal about the lesser than expected return.

If we could figure out a way to package the Pittsburgh and St. Louis picks to get us another top-five pick... Even better!

seriously, do you just post for the sake of bitching?
This gave me visions of Lt.Spears voting that he wanted the Flames to draft Jankowski then goes on an epic meltdown because Feaster drafted him.

Obviously, they got a top pairing Dman for a 1st and two marginal prospects.

Remember what Tallon did with FLA in his first year? Dumped players for picks and signed UFAs. They unexpectedly made the playoffs the next season. Not saying that can happen for us but it is possible. Alternatively, you can sign UFAs for 1 year terms and deal them for picks at the deadline. Ottawa also did a similar retool with favorable results a few years back, although you could argue that they started off with a better foundation. Feaster just has to be on the look for a Anderson for Elliot type swap and use his new found cap room wisely.

As I have pontificated many times, the structure with Flames management is more broken then just Feaster, who's IMO a pawn and hired to be as such IMO, but a necessary pawn to at least do the deals we're seeing now.

Once these deals are done...we'll see. The PC on Wed will be interesting...and at some point with such an organizational clearing of the house, KK or een the owners need to address the fan base.
Feaster could be on his way out, but this team needs to be careful. The last time this team was rebuilding Al Coates was the GM and he had built up a decent group of youngsters that included players like Iginla, Regehr, Savard, Giguere, and St.Louis. Al Coates was moved out and Button brought in and this team ended up with very little, if anything at all, for Savard, St. Louis, and Giguere.

I know it looks bad right now, but if we bring someone else in and they get rid of another group of young players who turn out to be all-stars this team will be right back where we are now.

uhhh, we get to choose a top prospect in a deep draft in the first round......how much more top end of prospects can you get, catered to your teams scouts?

Your point being? Even just a first rounder for a guy who's a 2/3 defenseman on a good team with a cap hit of $7M would be far more than anyone would have expected 3 months ago.

It will take some time to fully gauge the return, but I'd suggest we won both the Iggy and Jbo deals. We were going nowhere with them in the lineup, the kids that are bound to replace them will make an impact.

I think Flames fans are going to like Cundari. He's a bulldog who can hit and fight. He's performed well at every level so far and is the best defenseman on Peoria. He's only 22 years old. I could see him being a Lil' Giordano.

How about we keep our picks and draft three good players in a deep 1st round?
