Sure are a whole lot of hurt feelings over in Beantown for no good reason. No deal is ever final until the paperwork is processed. Can't slight the Flames on this one either. The ball was in Iggy's court and he took his talents to Pittsburgh. Either way, Flames don't have anything be happy about and Boston should just suck it up and play towards the playoffs, god knows Flames won't see that any time soon. Couple years at least.

Disgraceful!
To think I was actually excited for him to go to Boston and be a part of that team and fanbase. I don't think I want the Flames trading any player to Boston ever again. I've never been so disappointed. This is the result of cheering for laundry rather than understanding hockey. One thing left to say...
...Boo Boston!

It's like their treating this as a Heatley situation when it's near the exact opposite. Heatley wanted out at near any cost, but refuses to go to Edmonton and that's pretty insulting. Iginla may know it's the end of the era but it wasn't an easy decision for him to leave Calgary, if he does Boston is one of the few teams he would consider going to. In the end he chooses Pittsburgh, but Boston was right near the top of the list, should be closer to flattery than an insult.
If they want to boo him because he's a star player on an opposing team who's looking like the biggest obstacle for them, all the power to them. Booing him because of some imagined spurn is ridiculous though.
Besides, obviously Iginla was going to tune into his teammates play the Av's on TSN. When he was forced to watch the Bruins collapse in the third period against the Canadiens instead, it's no surprise he changed his mind

If everyone in the Boston camp keeps their mouth shut, this isn't an issue.
What this trade did tell me, was that the Flames AND the Pens are air tight when it comes to talking to "insiders" . It's one thing to wish we knew more about what was going on behind the scenes, but I'm impressed with both organizations for going about things the right way and keeping it behind closed doors.

Just watched the Chiarelli presser. Props to him seems like a classy guy with a lot of respect for Iginla and Feaster.
I don't really get the "hard, firm" comments about the rumored first rounder though.... couldn't he just have said "there was no condition on the first". Makes that part of it all sound a little questionable IMO.

Haha.
I haven't watched the presser myself, but I'm getting a kick out of the MUCH different interpretations being displayed from others who have seen it.
Anything from Chiarelli seemed to be seething, and clearly disgusted with Feaster/the Flames to seeming to have loads of respect for Feaster.

Whoever thought he was seething I think hasn't taken the time to relax in the last 24 hours, looking too much for something that really wasn't there. Not trying to slight those that think that but he was very professional in his comments. If he was seething at anyone it was that one annoying reporter who kept cutting him off whenever he tried to respond.

Not that I'm one of those mad at Feaster, I'm still sizing it up, but it is kinda funny.

The problem they are having with it is the spin. I watched their press conference - disappointed but not angry or anything. Says this happens all the time.
Boston fans are convinced that Iginla nixed the deal, and chose to go to the Pens.
In my view, Iginla selected 4 teams to which he would move to.
Feaster got offers from 3 teams.
Feaster told Iginla that those 3 teams are interested in him.
Iginla selected which one he preferred out of them.
They see it as "Iginla didn't want to come here" or "why even have us on his list if he never intended to come here"... when it was really: "I have these 4 teams I would accept a trade for, but have them ranked in terms of preference. Whichever team is highest on my list that shows interest in me in return, I will go to."
Of course it would be Pittsburgh. After years of having to do it all himself, after years of having sub-par centers to play with, Iginla goes to the 'surest thing' as can be determined at this point in time, and a team that has not only 1 but two of the world's best centers.
Media just spins, Boston fans just spin... what they should really be upset with is how their organization leaked it out prematurely. Even Chiarelli stated this happens 'more than you know', so the 'fault' is on them. I thought that Feaster erred on this one and was unprofessional about not keeping Boston in the loop, but apparently not. Just a 'regular thing', especially dealing with players having a NTC/NMC.
I just hope they aren't so classless as to "throw batteries at 'Jerome' when they play"... Just ridiculous, especially considering Jarome 'put up' with an organization for so long, has been extremely classy his whole career, is a lock for the HOF, and just took an opportunity to give himself the best shot at finally winning the cup. The ONLY 'fault' in all of this was with the media.

Only thing to consider why did Chiarelli say the deal was done at noon. Obviously Feaster erred in saying it was done if Jarome hadn't approved it. This whole scenario doesn't happen if Feaster goes to Iginla before telling Chiarelli its all good. Then it just escalated in the media.
In saying that Ken King saying next time he will have in writing the list of 4 teams and not needing to get approval when there is multiple offers. I'm all for Ntc if they are earned in which case Iginlas was however once the player submits his list of teams the choice should no longer be his. Why even submit a list if you only want 1 team?

Because there is no guarantee that team wants you (or is willing to give up enough)...
We don't know if Bobby Lou would actually go anywhere but Florida...evidence of where a 1 team list would get you.

I boo'd him and the entire Flames at a game a couple years ago against the Coyotes. He went on to score 2 goals in the third period to tie up the game and then the winner in the shoot out. Oh and he also dropped the gloves too that game.
Boo Iginla all you want, he is a world class HOF hockey player.

Do people actually think that Jarome approved anything other than which team he went to? It is Feaster's job to negotiate the deal that works for the Calgary Flames, after that he then gave Jarome a choice of which team of the ones that made an acceptable offer. I highly doubt Jarome was told who the return for him would be.
I think he chose wisely.

There are getting to be a lot of next times with this management team.
If King said that, he knows that there is a protocol to follow when dealing with NMC or NTC. What some media are saying is that you get your list of teams and submit the list to the league. With Jarome they didn't do this but took him at his word. If this is the case Jarome did a dick move by nixing the Boston deal.
The other scenario some of you are saying is that Iggy didn't give a final sign off on the listed teams but only listed his preferences. If this is the case than Feaster mislead Chiarelli as Chiarelli was under the impression that Feaster had the final say. In this case Feaster did a dick move.
The other case is Feaster was anxious to treat Iggy well and so let him go where he wanted to and screw Chiarelli. Who knows maybe by keeping the good relationship with Iggy, he'll re-sign with us this summer.

Given the differences in the versions among some of the principals, on the way it went down, I suspect it was something like this:
Feaster: "Jarome, we've got two similar offers from Boston and Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh has offered 2 middling prospects (possible NHLers) and a bottom first round pick. Boston has a slightly better prospect offer (K probably has a better upside than either of the Pittsburgh duo, and B is probably worse) and a conditional bottom first round pick". We like the Boston offer slightly better, but not so much as to refuse Pittsburgh. Which team would you prefer to join?"
Iginla: "Based on present status, I think I'd rather play for Pittsburgh".
If the Boston offer was so much better, Feaster could have said "This is the only offer we're willing to accept, at this stage."
(I don't like either offer)

I was actually in Boston when this happened and was watching the Comcast coverage of it yesterday. They played clips of Chiarelli's presser and maybe it is the way they edited it, but it appears that Chiarelli was trying to say that the Flames/Iginla killed the deal last minute and they are comparing Iginla to Lebron when he moved from Cleveland to Miami (i.e. players are too selfish). They didn't play the part where Chiarelli said nice things about Feaster/Iggy. Maybe that's how they spun the coverage to get more fan reaction. I will need to watch the full presser to know the truth.

Nope, I have heard of Philly baseball fans doing it at one point I think in the 90's but that's the only time I've heard of it happening.
