You are arguing that, because he had a full NMC, they HAD to do it that way (him with last refusal as opposed to the normal, get-a-list-approved method).
Are you sure about that? Because there are some media types arguing it differently tonight.

I am fairly certain that the the "get-a-list" way is considered a modified NMC. The player is obligated in that situation to provide a list and is contractually held to it. In Iginla's case, he had a full NMC and didn't have to provide a list when asked. He gave a list to Feaster so he could negotiate, but with a full NMC, and assuming no official waiver with listed teams was signed (and again, he was not obligated to sign one), then Iginla had the right of refusal.
Unless this Boston beat reporter can prove that Iginla signed a waiver with Boston on it, then he has nothing.

If Feaster really did something wrong, Boston should file grievance with the league. The problem is that Boston didn't do anything to protect themselves and now is trying to save face with their fan base.

Anyways it looks like Feaster ordered his law degree online because he seems get bamboozled by contract terms and NHL process quite often between this and RoR

Media types are arguing that the Flames could have gotten Iggy to sign off on his list in advance, and essentially waive his NMC in advance for the clubs on his list. In that scenario, the Flames wouldn't have needed his final sign off on a deal to those clubs because he'd have already provided it.
The media is right, the Flames could have done this, but only if Iggy was willing to do that, he still controls that. And I can't think why he would, what he did was in his best interest. I agree, a dick move if he submitted a list, but can't think why he'd give up any control of the process, that's why he negotiated an NMC.

They blow that lead in the third period allowing the Canadiens to score three times, forcing overtime and then a shootout.

Brendan Gallagher scores in the sixth round of the shootout giving the Canadiens a 6-5 win and a 1-point lead over the Bruins in the Northeast Division standings.
BOOOOOOOO!

So the same geniuses that reported the deal wrong are supposed to be trusted now on how things should or shouldn't work

Right, all the media people who got embarrassed because they reported the story too early is trying to blame this on Feaster to save face and possibly their jobs too.

To be fair, a lot of people went to bed thinking they had Iggy on the roster. Understandable that they would have crazy reactions in the morning. Some of the comments here have been pretty ugly as well.

I think the Flames probably didn't exercise all their rights to deal with the situation because of who it was. They basically allowed Iginla to set the agenda up to the last minute.
We can debate whether that was right or wrong, but I think their heart was in the right place. They wanted to do right by #12.

Chiarelli blew this. Blame Feaster for the poor return if you want, but Chiarelli should have known better to assume anything before the fax went through. Premature blowing your load and telling Khokhlachev he's heading to Calgary is his own fault and bush league, and especially after it was already leaked less than a week ago that Khokhlachev was going to be traded for Morrow.
This was a special circumstance, everyone should have known that. Iginla has been the heart and soul of the Flames for over a decade. Throw in his NMC and the Flames management wanting to do right by him and everyone should have realized this was a very real possibility.

Where did Chiarelli say that it wasn't a conditional first?
I heard him say in his conference that it included a first, but I never heard him say whether it was conditional or not. I worked a long day so i'm out of the loop a bit.

Of course some Bruins fans are pissed, we thought we were getting Iginla and then he went to the team that is the biggest obstacle to the Bruins winning. I totally understand Iggy choosing Pitt, Crosby and Malkin are unbelievable players and the team is winning like crazy. It just kinda sucked that all night it was looking like Boston and then Feaster said Pittsburgh. You'd have the same kind of reaction in any fanbase in the same situation. Iggy is one of my favorite players though, hell I've got an Iginla Flames jersey, and I hope he gets his cup.
As for Chiarelli, he went out of his way to say nice things about Feaster and Iginla at the beginning of his press conference. He explained the chain of events, and basically said that it sucks but it happens and that it's time to move on. He didn't trash talk the Flames or Iginla, he said that with NTC/NMC's this is going to happen, it's part of the business now. He was upset that he didn't get Iginla because Iginla is a great player, but he wasn't taking it out on the Flames or Iginla. I don't get how people think he's trying to save face with the fanbase by saying any of that, if he wanted to do that he would have gone all Brian Burke re: Kevin Lowe. I think both GM's handled the whole thing as well as they could.

And looked like a jackass like those two? What would he have said that wouldn't have been completely rebuffed by Feaster with a simple "Iginla wanted to go to Pittsburgh, not only did we want to give Iginla a say in this decision but ultimately it was his."
I understand the frustration not only with Chiarelli but the fanbase, but the whole thing looked to be blown out proportion because the deal was leaked, likely on his side as he was already telling the players involved. Otherwise this is just another trade that fell through last minute, for whatever reason, that isn't reported.

Wow they want to boo him because their organization leaked a trade that fell through? Iggy doesn't deserve that crap. So glad he went to Pens instead of the Bruins.

Hahaha! That actually made me happy in the saddest day as a Flames fan. Iggy actually did Flames a favor by going to the Pens. And yes, if Chiarelli would've put in that 1st rounder unconditionally or like what that angry fan was saying, Iggy would've been a Bruin. Sure Iggy had the last say, but if Bruin's deal would've been so good that no one can refuse, I think Feaster and management would've convinced Iggy to do the Bruin's deal for the good of the team's future. I think Iggy would've done it. Still think the Pen's deal is way better than the Bruin's. I also think the Flames organization did Iggy a huge favor. If it wasn't for the media and 80% of the fan base wanting Iggy out for a full rebuild, this lopsided trade wouldn't have happened.
If Feaster was gonna get fleeced, he might as well get fleeced as less as he can and Iggy got the team at least a 1st round pick, albeit a low 1st rounder. Still better than the 2 prospects that are typical of a Cervenka and a Butler. That 1st round unconditional pick would've and should've been a deal breaker and Feaster should've told Chiarelli to go eff himself.

That video was awesomw. Dude looked like he had just been crying his eyes out.
I like how he cries that Feaster is an idiot, the says he wants Ryan Whitney because they have too many small puck moving defencemen in the minors. Whitney, who has been a healthy scratch this year by the powerhouse and defensively awesome Oilers.
Dude is obviously not playing with a full deck.

Chiarelli said it was not a conditional pick, it's in the video of the press conference. Someone asked him if the pick was conditional and he cut the guy off saying something like 'no, it was firm.'

Think Chiarelli is trying to cover his arse. Regardless, Feaster probably knew he's getting fleeced. Iggy steps in and makes the best of the situation. Who can really blame Iggy for going to the right team? Still think Chiarelli is blowing smoke up his own arse. Should've offered a lot more for Iggy if they wanted the best power forward on the market.
