Can't think of how they would as he is reporting to the team and playing for them which fullfills his contract.

Your suggesting he should leave his family in one city for the season and abandon the responsibilities as a dad?

Show me 1 fan who is optimistic about the current team. With Kipper just having a baby it is understandable he doesn't want to leave now. That doesn't mean he will be against a deal in the summer or we should hate on him now

Kipper is not only my personal favorite keeper, he is the Flames best goalie, hands-down. At 37 years, his trade value would not be that high, and he could mentor a potential replacement before he retires.

Also, this could have been an under-the-table deal between Darryl and Kiprusoff that Kiprusoff would stay here till the end of his career, but has the option of moving his last yeaer ($1.5M) in a trade to another team when Kiprusoff retires early in case there is a change to the CBA (2012) that could hurt the team cap wise. And when told Feaster would not honor that arrangement, Kiprusoff said (probably not to Kypreos) that he wouldn't report, it got leaked somehow. I doubt it came from Kiprusoff and nothing is ever leaked about that; but the Flames have a history of leaking this.

I just found out about this on Sportsnet, they reported it during the intermission of the Leafs game. Normally I would say that a player should honour his/her contract, but I think Kipper has earned the right to take this stance in Calgary. I give him all the respect he and his family deserve, glad to see him retire a Flame (I assume he'll retire this year).

Abandon his responsibilities? What the heck are you talking about?

He is leaving his family in one city right now. He will leave his family in one city many times in April.

He will be gone for at most 3 months and likely shorter. Considering many here are from Alberta and work in Oil Field I wouldn't be shocked if a number of people on here have left their families for similar lengths of time for work. Without the million dollar paycheck, fancy home and help from a rich organization to ensure transition is going well.

Thanks Kipper

Just dosnt want to be a leaf so I dont blame the guy one bit for putting that out there.
Do you really think the Hawks would give up Saad and a first for a goalie who has had 2-3 good games this year? Seriously. (and I love Kipper, I am not bashing him)

I suppose. From what little we all know, I am getting the feeling that he will move to Finland if he moves at all.

Then Sutter would have just put in a NMC for this year.

This is no worse than Montreal wanting to sit Gomez so he didn't injure himself so they could buy him out. By your logic Montreal should've been forced to play him because he signed a contract to play hockey for the team.

A contract is a contract. By my logic there is nothing that was in Gomez's contract that said he couldn't be a healthy scratch any given night so I don't know why you would say something as ignorant as that. If a team is paying a guy, they can play him or not play him if they want. As long as he was getting paid, the canadians could do whatever they wanted and they wouldn't have violated the CONTRACT between the player and the team. If Kipper refuses to play for anyone elese even though his contract says he should, he's in violation.

How would you feel if we were offered a first round pick and a prospect for Stempniak and he pulled this? He's under contract, he's done a lot for the Flames this year. What if a deal was in place for Ovechkin and he said that if he's traded, he'd go to russia? Wouldn't that be a violation of his contract?

Nope. He's fulfilling his contract right now.

If the report is true, it's simply that Kiprusoff would retire if traded and there's nothing in his contract that stipulates that he can't do that. It's a perfectly legitimate option for any player who's willing to not receive his salary and doesn't intend to play in the NHL again.

The rumours say that Kipprusoff has told the Flames this. Who would leak this? It's certainly not in the Flames' interests to do so.

This is WAY off topic. but leaving your wife alone with a two week old child when you already have other children is not the most responsible parenting decision.
Family or hockey..... shouldnt be a tough decision.

Well they hated it when players did this in Toronto after the lockout.

Flames are heading in the direction of being leafs-west.

One of 2 Flames I don't mind retiring as a Flames. Hoping Iggy does the same thing. Gut the team and leave these 2 as is on the team.

So say you had 2 guys who had to work for you, both signed to a contract of identical amount and term. Now lets say guy #1 works hard every shift, always on time and doesn't complain when things are tough. Now guy #2 slacks off, rarely shows up on time, and complains all the time. Wouldn't you say guy #1 has fulfilled his contract more than guy #2. Wouldn't you say that guy #1 has earned some kind of reward? Kipper has been a consumate professional his whole career and has earned the right to have some kind of reward. There are different aspects in terms of "fulfilling a contract" and Kipper has.
